Yeah, I think I picked up on that. But thanks anyway for stating the obvious. It's too damn cold to try installing it now, it's 16 degrees here. The next time it gets warm enough I'll be putting it in. It already looks way better than the Stinger Roadkill crap I bought before. That stuff fell off within a week, and that was with use of a heat gun and properly cleaned surfaces.

It looks like I may be payin somewhere around $1,000 to sound deaden my scion tc but i'll see what they say.

I'm gonna have 3 12" Fi Qs back there with 3 1,500w amps and if anyone has seen the Tc hatch space, who knows how much rattle that's gonna make.

You realize when you use better deadener.. you don't have to use as much right? Butyl is much more effective than asphalt.

I read the thread, totally Suprised by the responses and negative comments about this company. I highly recommend their products to anyone. It took Exactly 3 days to ship from where ever they located to florida in no time. People are bashing the tools that they give you for "free" ( like the razor ). Atleast they give you something unlike other companies. Yes its cheaper, and there are facts and statistics about the products so they cant lie and say what ever they want. But other than that, maybe people had some bad luck. Maybe i came off a bit harsh, but i have no offense or show nothing towards anyone. Dont just give up on them, ive felt dynamat products and they are pretty close in comparison fatmat. Thumbs up for fatmat

i only said that following statement because i think back in the posts someone said that it was much thinner and more like a cheap roofing material or peel and stick that you can get from home depot. Dynamat sure is the best peel and stick insulator/deadener. Second skin is the best in all, but requires more work to apply.

I'd forgotten this gem. It was fun when I wasn't in the business and could say whatever I wanted. During one of Aaron's recent visits to SDS, I pulled out my box of samples from my testing days and showed him a variety of products, including FatMat. For all the discussion of testing methods, home brewed or standards based, nothing really beats holding a variety of products in your hands. of the discussion about price and value assume that we are talking about reasonably comparable products. Play with then a little and it's immediately obvious that we aren't.

At least this led to FatMat removing the word "butyl" from their site. Despite Steve's claim that asphalt has desirable characteristics, you won't find that word either. "rubberized compound" instead.

Don is understating it to be nice. The blind test would tell you right away just by touch. Some of the samples just did not seem liked they belonged in the conversation. Oh and side note, NEVER EVER install RAMMAT in a vehicle that you might have the slimmest chance of having to remove it. Horrible stupid mess. To their credit, that product is being discontinued.

Oh man, that is nothing. It is a massive undertaking and I am trying to help Don when I can. That Honda has in some areas 5 and 6 layers of material with a liquid deadener on top. It means black stained hands and shredded fingers. Don had to take out the entire window and moving assembly to remove product from the doors. It is an exhausting task.

I wouldn't have started if I'd known how difficult it was going to be. Now that I'm halfway through, I'm going to finish out of spite.

Putting aside the whole topic of how much vibration damper coverage you need to be effective, something that I never thought of is the impact covering everything with even one layer has on future body work. I share space with a body shop. The guys there have taken an interest in this project. Aside from Aaron, they're also pretty much the only people who don't look at me like I'm crazy for doing it

They've told me about cars that have come in with dings in the doors that could otherwise have been fixed with a $100 PDR. Because the owner had covered the outer skin in Dynamat (their example), PDR was impossible. Repairs that require welding are impossible. The time required to remove the material before working on the sheet metal is not covered by insurance. Simple and inexpensive repairs become expensive and complicated repairs require replacing the entire panel. They agreed that removing 25% coverage wouldn't phase them at all. Half the time they find some small patches of LCD inside doors that was installed at the factory.

Since there's no benefit to be gained by full coverage - let alone what I did, and it presents potential problems in the future, there's no reason to do it. I wish I'd know 5 years ago what I know now.
