opinions on running a 15" Q sealed

Recommended Posts

I rarely see anyone running sealed on this forum. Since the Q is the only sub to run sealed, anyone with some more insight? Currently, i have a 12" kicker CVX in a 2.3cf @29hz box and I find it tuned too low for most of the music I listen to. I found someone to buy my sub/box for $200 so I'm gonna pickup a 15" Q and run it sealed. Space is a concern to me as well. I'm planning on making a box around 2.5cf after displacement and running it off my viper 1200.1 .. so 1200w @ 1 ohm. How does the Q sound sealed? I'm hoping for a slight output bump up as well as a much flatter response curve. I'm excited to go back sealed!

Sounds fine to me sealed..

Personally running a ssd12 sealed with a dei1100 with copper coils..granted i don't beat the heck out of it and it's probably an honest 700 watts or so, sounds good and gets loud...enough to shake the mirrors on the car if i want to.

I had my Q12 in a sealed box for a short while and really liked it. I plan on putting my Q12 back into a sealed box...it is in a 2.0 cu ft box tuned to 32 hz right now.

Any particular comparison and reason why your going back sealed (i'm putting 2 12 q's in a sealed box myself)....

The faster attack times with it sealed outweigh the output gain with it ported, more of a personal thing. I have a 2000 watt amp so I can get similar output with 2 sealed on 2000 watts while reducing the probability of me burning my sub up.

I'm not a BTL or BL type of guy either.

The Q will get loud and sound great in either alignment.
