15" BL vs. 15" Avalanche

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I want your opinion on which subwoofer to set in stone within my 2002 Honda Accord Coupe. I am looking for something clean and loud (everyone wants) that is similar to my Ava but possibly better. Is the BL 15" my answer? I will let you know what equipment I am running so that you can attempt to imagine what will sound better for my application.

Eclipse CD5100

Rainbow Audio Vanadium CS265

Audison LRx 1.1k (1090wrms@1ohm)

Audison LRx 2.9 (260wrmsx2)

Backed up with:

Excessive Amperage 200A HO Alt.

Kinetik HC1800

The whole vehicle is deadened besides the roof with RAAMmat BXT and I will be able to fit somewhere between 2.5-4 cubes. I have read on this forum that the BL wants more power than 1kw but I am hoping the Audison is a little underrated and will be able to push it. I am not a streetbeater by any means and it will be going into a custom trunk. Let me know which you would choose and why guys! Thanks in advance for your suggestions. :domoslay:

P.S. - Tried emailing FI but they haven't gotten back to me yet... I thought I could push 2-10" SSD's but after reading a bit I doubt it.

I vote a Q because it should sound exceptional and match the power you have fairly well.

I think you may be right... Is the Q series more of an LSQ sub similar to the Avalanche? With the BL sub I am going to add the "Cooling" $40.00 option.... I don't think I need the BP option for the Q series with the power I have correct?

What is the warranty for the Q series subwoofers? I don't see that listed although I do see some responses from FI Car Audio saying let us see if it is a warranty issue.

I think the Q would be a better bet given your description as well. Ava and Q are two rather different subs with two different sounds. The AVA is an XBl sub and has a more sterile sound while the Q is a little more involving. Which do I prefer... A little of both, lol. I designed both of them and know their sound rather well. Id say that most daily drivers prefer the Q while its a toss up SQ wise between the AVA and Q.

1 year parts and albor against defects... you can read it here: http://www.ficaraudio.com/shopdata/terms.shopscript

Thanks,

Scott

Crap... It is kind of a tossup... Can you be a little more specific with the sterile vs more involving? Do you mean more involving like more responsive? Sorry, I am not familiar with these terms in this context. Also, this sub will be going into a showcar so it is not daily driven. I am going for the best overall performer.

I owned An Avalanche 15" in the past, I own a BL now, only its a 10" , I would have to say the Q would be your best bet, I think the BL line is completly different from the Ava's.

I would opt for the Q again, because they are a current line, ie , should you decide to get a 2nd or 3rd, you wont have a hard time getting them, so long as Fi does not plan to discontinue them.

This is all my unedumcated opinion, Scott said it best, if he designed both subs, take his word for it :D

Could I recone my AVA and make it a hybrid?? If I am going to show the face of my AVA it has to be redone anyway.. Just a thought :). Scott let me know what you can do!

With the AVA and XBL motor there is VERY little that can be done to it other than stock. When I designed that motor I did it specifically for the AVA line and not as a universal motor. Also, the XBL motors require VERY specific coil lengths... which sticks you to only certains sized coils. Very nice sub, but not much can be done after the fact to alter its performance.

Thanks,

Scott

i would think it is p[retty biased to ask that question here... but i have 2 18" q's and they are the best sounding woofers i have ever owned! get really loud and sound DAMN good doing it. my merc. mounty. is GeTtIn It!

Im not too biased... I designed both subs and now run Ascendant...lol

It just seems like from the overall description that the Q might be a better fit.

If any other bran would be a better bet, Id say so as well... Id rather have someone happy in general (with a more suitable product) than purchase something from me and it not do what they are looking for.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for the replies :). This is exactly why I posted in here. Should I expect something from AA on July 4th? Thats all I am waiting for before purchasing my Q15.

We are working hard on getting everything going for the 4th... I hope everything for the site is finished at that point. Just running through specs and content right now. Setting up the new warehouse next week as well as production. We are still missing a couple of parts so we will see what all will be ready for sale shortly after that (magnet boots for Aresenals, dustcaps for Assassin 8s, 18" Havoc dustcaps... little bits and pieces that are on their way in but most likely wont be by the 4th).

Thanks,

Scott
