do something better with your time man, theres no point

That's your inexperienced opinion.

Any o-scope will work, its audio band AC anyways.

Find whats cheap, link it here, I, or someone else will let ya know yay or nay

Both would get the job done... but the second one would probably be easier to use & lighter. Tektronix is the brand I used in school, and use at work.

well some are fairly cheap that are new or barely used on ebay. does the mhz even matter? if so what do i need to shoot for?

considering audio only goes up to ~20kHz, even just 1MHz is far above what you need

I don't know where you live, but if there are any amateur radio swapmeets around you, those are usually good places to find a lot of used test equipment, and have the chance to try it out before you buy it. I went to one last spring in Raleigh and there were piles of o'scopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and all sorts of surplus electronic stuff like that for sale.

Do you have any suggestions for where to look for such swapmeets?

I have a Velleman HPS10-SE. It cost around $160 and is very easy to use as well as being battery powered. Make sure you get the special edition, it has the backlit LCD screen.

LINK

I am pretty sure that is the guy I bought it from as well.

Here is more info on the Velleman site...

i like that o-scope. its portable and battery powered for a reasonable price. i might just shell out an extra 65-80 for that one since it will do away with a lot of headaches. thanks for the help guys! if anyone finds anything better feel free to post. or just post what you guys use if anything.
