A crazy project that I should tell yall about

Recommended Posts

Well, last summer, me and my friends saw somebody w/ an ice chest speaker box. They had a Pioneer HU, some Kicker 8's, some Pioneer 6x9s, and a small amp and a battery. It sounded really good. We had the idea to do something bigger and better however.

On our quest for the perfect ice chest to use (hey its gotta be big enough to hold beer), we came across a rubbermaid bench. We thought it would be perfect for the project and so we bought it.

I took my old pioneer hu (deh-p330) and my friend donated some 5.25s, and I bought some pioneer 6x9s off of a friend. For bass, I picked up a pair of RE 8's while they were on sale. I bought a JBL 80.4 to power it all.

After a few weeks of working on it, we got too drunk one night and messed up the cd player install in the armrest.

I waited about 5 or 6 months before calling rubbermaid and realizing that it would only be $12 shipped for a new one. Well, it came in and recently we got back to work on it.

Right now it is almost functional, I dont think the cd player is working so I plan on buying my friend's old pioneer for all the money he owes me. I also have to mount the turn on switch, and the speaker box terminal that I am using for a charging point.

Now to the idea of how to get beer into it. I plan to make a frame out of some scrapwood and fiberglass about 4 layers of mat to it and pop the mold out. I also plan to make it lip over the edges so nothing happens to spill. I will glue some thick rags on the outside to soak up any condensation that may occur. I will also drill a hole and put some small pvc and a stopper for a drain.

After that, all we need to do is cosmetics. I have some body filler and I plan to make the cd player install look flush and clean. I either plan to paint it with spray paint, or with my dad's automotive finish gun that he never used, and some paint from a can. The latter will be more expensive and risky (due to the fact that I have never done it before), but I think the results should be a lot better. Maybe Jamie can help out with that.

I will post up some pics tomorrow.

But for now, does anybody have some criticism of what might not work? I have considered almost everything, but I'm sure yall can find something to point out that I need to work on.

Thanks,

Alex

Sorry bout that, I'll get some pics up tomorrow. We got it all functional today, and man does it sound good. It gets loud as hell and stays clean. Plays good bass too. It will be interesting to see the chicks reaction of sitting on it :o

I posted something yesterday but it didn't appear.

heres basically what i said:

I am thinking of an idea of how to make it hold beer and be insulated. I will take some 3/4" wood and make a frame for the thing and glass the inside and the outside, and take some expanding foam and fill in the gap. I will then put some thick rags on the outside of it to soak up the condensation if any.

Anybody have some comments on how to keep all of the stuff dry?

I also need one of those cd player covers that they have in boats if anybody knows where to get one.

Jamie, I may need some help w/ the appearance of the thing, so if you have some free time this week, just give me a call.

:finger:
