SAZ-3000D

Recommended Posts

Well, hi to everyone at sundown.

From what I can find it seems that this amp isn't quite out yet?

I currently have 2 memphis 4ks, and was about to buy 2 more, but I'm wondering if there is something better out there before investing memphis.

There was mention of a pre-order of 3ks for ~900each, which if I could dump off the 4ks quick enough I would be interested in buying 4 of them if its beneficial.

After reading the thread on testing it seems they put out close to 4k at 1ohm, 14.4v? Please correct me if I'm wrong. While bias can be expected on a product forum, I'd really like to get some more info on these amps. Everyone seems to love the 1500s, and I've heard nothing but great things about customer service.

It boils down to would there be any benefit to switching to 3000s over my current amp choice? It seems like it'll be a great amp, I'm just wondering if it would be better in my situation. I'd be running 1 per Fi BTL 18 at 1 ohm on a 12v system (upgraded).

Thanks for the help.

I can't give you a direct comparison but I can say this... Sean, that helped me test the 3000D and did high voltage 1500D testing, swapped out 2x Memphis 4kw for 4x SAZ-1500Ds and gained power. The SAZ-3000D does darn near exactly twice what the 1500D does. Chances are you will gain a bit or be about the same as the Memphis amps.

Whether it is beneficial or not is up to you. Are the Memphis amps authorized and warrantied? That might be a concern. Is space an issue? The 3000D is shorter in length than the 4kw is. Do you think you may drop them to 1/2 ohm for competition? The 3000D is okay with that.

Is it worth it for a few 1/10s, I don't know.

I don't really frequent comps since there are rarely any around Myrtle Beach SC, so they would stay on 1ohm all the time. I bought the amps from a dealer w/ warranty. Space wise unless they are drastically shorter than the 4ks it wont make much of a difference. I have 1 behind the seat now, one under the rear seat, and was planning on putting one on each side of the box, since this is the only place I can think of to put them (It's a Yukon).

I'm not expecting to go from an end result of 16kwatts to 20kwatts or anything, but I was wondering if they would be a bit better on the charging system, and overall reliability.

Those Memphis amps are pretty good, albeit a little power hungry and not low impedance happy at all. The good news about going with the Saz-3000d's is that you could strap a pair per pair of woofers for comps and gain ~15-20% of power for a burp. Quite a good deal, b/c the saz- series love low impedances and are damn near indestructible. Not to mention that their are quite a few comps in the south-east area, definitely more than there are around me in Albany NY. For daily it won't be much of a difference, but the warranty and customer service are definite sundown pluses.

You said you might buy 2 more mojo amps 4k ,think of it this way look at price and customer service. If the mojo are more expensive for the same power than the saz3000 are. then it's a no brainier. Also look at input voltage and see if they can accept 18volts in. How sensitive are the low level inputs. What kind of distortion are they rating their amps at. What kind of test was done to get their rated power. Correct me if I'm wrong they are a 2 ohm mono amp pretty sad for this time and place.

I'm sure that you can't buy a 4k memphis amp for less than $1700.00 and up (new) w/papers. That's almost 2 of the SAZ3000 . If you got 4/SAZ3000 for the price of 2/4k or slightly over ,then you could sell your 2 /4k that you already have and spend little or nothing in total. :WELCOME::Doh:

I know that I can get them for ~1300 bnib from an authorized dealer, I think tej was paying ~800 for each, but even still. He can now wire each woofer to .5 ohms and get the same amount of power with the better warranty, customer service, and the extended replacement plan.

TRZ, the memphis amps are 4k@ 1ohm.

I'm paying 1200 bnib from a local dealer, but there's a guy who has some for sale for 675 shipped I'm trying to work with. If I can get the same or similar price for the memphis amps I will stick with them, but if not I def. like everything I've heard about sundown.

The memphis accepts up to 9v low level, I have a line driver giving it 8ish (stupid alpine 1v preout). I considered going 16v, but I've decided not to, so either one will be fine on a 12v system. As soon as I find out about the price I can get on the memphis I'll see which way I lean. Thanks for the input from everyone.
