E36 BMW Help

Recommended Posts

Alright guys what's up! I need some help here. Right now I have a 97 BMW 318is with a 12'' Kicker CVR in a ported box a 800watt PPI PCX2200 amp. and a ghetto cheap cap from Fry's. Now I need some Components that'll fit just like factory. My local shop told me to go with Focals so that'll probably be what i run with unless i get enough people to tell me i can get something as good for cheaper haha. I was wondering if I could get a sub that'll rape 2 12'' cvr, cvx, jl w6v2. I want a single sub at 800rms that'll use a box that takes almost half my trunk. I do care about SQ. I've read that RE SE and SX are great subs. I wanted to see what else was out there. Oh and right now my trunk rattles like crazy I wanted to get some opinions on second skin spectrum spray.

Have you heard the Focals? Do you like them? I wouldn't go with what someone told me to, but what I thought sounded the best.

Are you currently looking at 5.25" drivers or 6.5"? Who is installing them? Do you have a budget? How much power will they be getting?

As for the box in your trunk are you building it? How much internal space can you have in it? Do you have a budget for a larger amp and sub?

For deadening, I like the mat better for everything but the floorpan. Other than 2nd Skin look at Raamat as well.

yea i've heard the focals they're really nice. i'm looking at the 5.25 drivers. the shop is going to install. I'll be running a ppi pcx 280. budget pref would be under 500 on components. box in my trunk right now is exactly like the JL box. internal space i think it's running abour 1.75. well for the amp i was planning on keeping my ppi pcx 2200.

Are you sure you aren't up to installing them yourself?

Then you need to adjust your budget. To get great sound out of that car you are going to have to spend more on the installation than the speakers.

Spend more on the install than the speakers? What do you mean?

Paying someone to do the install = $$

Much more than the speakers are going to be.

If you just bolt the speakers into the stock locations it isn't really worth doing.

You need to mount them on a baffle, deaden the piss out of the surrounding area, and seal them off from the cabin. To really get your kicks to sing you need to vent them to the outside as well. That portion of things is definitely more spendy than the speakers but makes a way bigger difference as well.

i've never heard of venting speakers to the outside... I was just going to have the shop run the wires and hook up the amp.

That is really too bad, your car deserves much better than that. It really won't do the speakers justice. If the shop you went to recommended that, perhaps you should try a different shop.
