1500D's Strapped

Recommended Posts

What kind of power would I be looking at with 2 1500D's strapped at 3ohms? I've got an HD315 DVC .75ohm each. I can either run the amps at .75 or 1.5 each. This is a daily driver, no burps, played reasonably loud 90% of the time. Friday's after work it gets played stupidly loud, so I can unwind on the 20 minute ride home. That's the longest amount of time I play it that loud, usually around 20 minutes.

I don't really understand impedence rise, but I know it will effect what the amp really sees. That's why I wonder if .75ohm per amp would be ok for my situation. Or would 1.5 each be safer? If so would it be that much of an increase in power over my current single amp at .75ohms?

Found a good deal on a new amp, so I'm considering picking it up and would like to use it now instead of waiting for the next vehicle/2nd sub as that's a few years off. I've heard of several guys throwing 2-3k daily at the HD3, so I want to give it try :ughdunno:

Electrical:

EA 200amp alt - 14.5v at idle, but haven't measured with the system up loud.

SVR up front

Deka Intimidator rear

1/0 BIG 3

Expect about 1300 watts each at 1.5 ohm... so you would be getting about 2600 watts to the sub strapped @ 3 ohms.

Right now you are getting about 1750 watts at 0.75 ohms, so it is a substantial increase.

I am a bit confused on how you are getting 3 ohms... since you only have one sub, correct? That would not be possible.

If you wired the coils in series and strapped the amps you would be running 1.5 strapped, or 0.75 per amp. In which case you should expect to get around 1750 each again, for around 3500 watts total.

One question... is the 0.75 the DCR or the rated nominal?

Jake,

Thanks for the response. Always nice to hear from the man himself.

Sub is a DVC 1.5ohm, so I "assumed" I wire it in series for 3ohm, or .75ohm if in parallel (that's how I have it wired now). Then each amp would see 1/2 of the final load. Is that correct?

No info on the AQ site on whether it's nominal or DCR.

The 2600 at 3ohms sounds tempting and would be less abuse on the amps.

Ah, I see. For some reason I thought you had dual 0.75 ohm coils.

In that case... what I said about strapping at 3 ohms is the information that you need.

interesting.

Offtopic: Jake how do you like that caliber? I was thinking of getting one. But I haven't heard many reviews.

It's fine, I mainly use it to haul amps around :) I got the SE model with the 2.0 and CVT transmission, very few other options. I've put 10k miles on it since December 30th and don't have any real complaints other than the noisy factory tires.

Ordered the 2nd 1500D today, via Denim and the SSA store. GREAT person to deal with, I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!

Looking forward to seeing what the HD does on 2500+ watts :OhYeah:

That's how I'm running it right now and it's not exactly quiet. But DJ said that 2500+ will really bring them alive, so I'm going to find out if it makes a diff.

Also will probably do a 5^3 @38Hz box to see how that works out. I'm at 35Hz right now and DJ said the higher tune will offer more SPL, and the bigger box will help with the lows. And I like building boxes :D

He also said at 2500+ for daily that a SSF wasn't necessary as the motor is over built and won't hurt itself.

I'll be sure to post a few pics when the "twins" are in place. Might head out to the garage and build the new amp rack tonight, just to be ready...
