I called a few friends but noone knew, so as soon as I got home, next step was to ask here.

I sort of remember some people mentioning some kind of ground loop noise in the system, or had grounding issues with this head unit. Is this true or am I thinking of another Pioneer deck?

I ask because I need to get a new deck for the civic to compete and Amanda's old Sony is not going to cut it. And before anyone asks, yes I want eclipse, but I just don't want to lay out that much for a deck right now.

Thanks

Matt and Ramos both had problems with theirs that were fixed I believe. Mine has been completely quiet. I highly recommend a fresh ground, but love the unit. The biggest downfall is the stupid pioneer menu system. I still occasionally need the manual to look something up, the Eclipses on the other hand are super intuitive.

IIRC, Ramos' never was completely fixed. Matt's was horrendous, was a shame too because it seemed to have nice features and a great crossover section.

If you're looking for a burp deck, I hear a lot about Panasonics being very skip resistant. Crap for features, but what do you need for an SPL deck anyway? :D

Well the scooter will also be my new daily and I hope to do a budget active front stage. :)

I wouldn't hesitate to get the 880. Had they been in the store a week earlier I probably would have bought another instead of the 8454.

Aaron you and I both know that you want a CD5000 for amanda

:)

Well Amanda is driving the 528i now, and to change the HU on that it would be a little more work then pulling out the old Sony out of the Civic. :P

But yeah, her car is last on the list for system over haul, even though I want to upgrade it for sure. The problem with Eclipse is I cannot afford it (meaning the boss will not approve it) and I can get the Pioneer at a decent price. So that way I still get the 24bit D/A and BurrBrown in the HU. :)

I think we have a winner then, followed by some Seas tweets too.

My 860MP had the loop issue, and it was common in that model. I had to send it in for repair.

2 Year Premier warranty FTW!

I want a pair of the Neo's too, but I need to stop collecting drivers.

But wouldn't I need to be in yours since you will have them?

You have a point,

Ramos is getting any RF amps I have left along with my original FNQ components,

You can have my HA mids and tweets,

Casey gets my Orion amps,

Dave gets all my processors,

Jordan gets the funky pups,

Nick gets my QSD's and my H2,

The Alpine 1000 is not claimed yet (would still like to sell it for something)

Arthur gets the 8053 and signed tripple slug RL-p,

Amanda gets the Eclipse 10's,

Jim gets my MJ-18,

Stephen Mantz gets my US Acoustics 2075,

Mark gets my classic MTX Blue Thunders and Audio Control Overdrive,

Randy gets my Cadence amplifiers,

Steve gets my 300ce,

the list can go on for a while...

Your going to love it. If it had a few bands of parametric on top of what it already does it may be the perfect headunit. Either way it has way more flexibility than my Eclipse.

My favorite decks lately id the pioneer p8mp, I've had it for about 2 years, works flawless, looks nice I was blessed by yhe ebay god for $200 to the door new.. nice.. I really want to upgrade soo, thinking about a eclipse 7000, I love the 8v preamps, Or mayeba higher end panasonic, nice deck, I just don't think its in th same class as the above menrioned two, any opinions?

I'd take the 880 over the 7000 any day of the week and over any Panasonic. 8v is unnecessary, 5v is more than strong enough to be way higher than the noise floor.

Webster is selling his near new CD5000 for a great price. I was going to pick it up, but ended up getting the Pioneer.

You should be happy with the 880. I have heard of the problems but i have had mine for about 9 months and haven't had any problems with it. There is a grip i have with it but nothing big like when I put in a disk loaded with mp3s and put it on random when you press the next button it goes the the next track instead of going to a random track. like I said not a big problem but would've been nice to skip to a random track.

I further made myself feel this way today. Independent l/r eq is nearly a necessity when running active. Regrettably, it makes a bigger stage difference than all my other efforts combined.
