what should i do first???

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 honda accord EX-L I have all stock speakers and power. ok i have about $820, to spend, and i was planning on getting a good sub setup, but after thinking maybe i should get a speaker set up first. So what should i do first get 2 good front speakers and an amp to power them. or go with the subwoofer and amp, then later if i dont like how it sounds upgrade the front component speakers?

Would you consider going active front stage and losing the rear fill speakers?

I'd actually phrase it the other way, why would you want to keep the rear speakers? They degrade your stage, do not add any volume, and pretty much make music sound really unnatural.

If I were you with that money, I'd deaden like crazy, buy an amp and some awesome front stage speakers and call her a day.

really? so no sub or any thing, just 2 front speakers and 2 tweeters? that doesn't seem like it would fit my needs at all. because right now ALL my bass comes from my back stage

He didn't say to not have any subs...

Think about it, about 90% of the frequency response comes from your front speakers, so where should the most money and effort go...? :)

No, Jorge, dude what Denim was sayin is the rear speakers, like on your rear deck or the rear doors, cause wave interference and makes it all sound cluttered and muddy without adding the ability to get on level with the subs, so get a component set,( two midbasses and 2 tweets and two crossovers) and run good power to them up front, in your front doors or where ever you want, and have your subs in the rear, like a 2.1 stereo setup. It'll sound more balance and clean. and less stuff to worry about goin wrong.

well right now i only have 6 speakers, 2 tweeter, 2 front component speakers (on the front door) and two 6x9 on the back below the rear winshield. and an amp to power all of them. If i replace all these speakers then i wouldn't be able to get a subwoofer, because i dont have that much money.

So i am still kinda confused on what to do, should i replace all of those speakers?

because it sounds pretty clean as of now, but what i was woried about was if i got a subwoofer first then i wouldn't be able to hear the speakers, because the sub would be too strong.

You should sell/get rid of the 6x9's and not replace them. Personally I'd spend your whole budget on deadening and your front stage, others may buy a sub first but spending all of your budget on something that only plays from 20-50hz or so is a bit silly when the rest of the audio spectrum then gets left behind.

I'm agreeing with Sean here.

If I was in your shoes, I'd go bargain hunting for a decent 5 channel amp. Use the 4 full range channels to power an active front stage. Buy a Mach5 sub for the low end if you need to.

Pick up a cheap electronic crossover for the front stage, or buy a used deck that has electronic crossovers built in...

Here is an example:

Active Crossover Capable Headunit - $200US shipped

5 channel amplifier - $250US shipped

That leaves ~$370 to spend at www.madisound.com on the front stage & subwoofer. You can also consider using the MLi-65 from mach5 audio...

www.mach5audio.com or check the SSA store.

Otherwise, just have a look at Madisound for example.

Tons of options for mids under $70 each, and tweeters in the $30-40 each range. The front stage I am looking to purchase will be ~$230US for two 7" drivers & two 1" tweeters. I think that is about how much Sean's front stage in his truck would have cost.

ok this is all great, but the thing is my car is leased, so i am going to put 850 dollars worth of audio into a car that not even mine, thats why i was hesitant to change the front speakers if i ever got a sub. i am not going to buy the car when the lease is done.

sounds like you made up your mind before asking. either way everything other than the deadener can easily be removed.
