(2) 12" Q or SSD?

Recommended Posts

Well I'm going to be putting together something to go in the back of my Dodge Quad Cab. I've taken out the back seat and I'm gonna put together a sealed setup to the specs of the sub I purchase.

Amp: Soundstream PCA2000.

From what I've read..the amp will do 2000 X 1 @ 1 ohm. Maybe just a tad more..but I'm not betting on it.

I'm more geared towards SQ...so of course I was thinking about the Q(from what I've read). I began to question if my amp would actually be able to feed enough power to the Q's so I've become more interested in the SSD line. I figured I could save a little money, add the cooling option, and KNOW that I'd be feeding them enough at lower gain levels and still maybe have similar sound(my ears may not be able to tell the difference).

I'm more or less new to the bass game...give me a couple sealed 10's getting 300 watts each and I'm impressed...so I have no idea what to expect with the next setup. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Well the standard Q's are rated at about 1000 watts and if your amp puts out 2000 watts should be good for the Q's.. If you get the standard SSD's they are rated at about 800 watts so you would be risking blowing the ssds unless you know what your doing with the power. But if you get the Flatwind coil and or the BP power option for the SSD's shouldn't have no problems at all with the SSD's taking that power.

Hope someone will chime in to correct me if I said anything wrong..

I dont necessarily think you would damage them unless you really pushed on them. However, if you are looking to save a little, SSD's with BP option and coppercoils would still sound exceptional!

Now I've got to decide which way to face the subs when putting the enclosure together.

Subs Facing front..

Subs Facing up..

Subs facing towards front at an angle...

Dodge quad cab...

Are you putting them under the seats or something?

Took out the whole back seat...figured I would just make it easier to install..have plenty of room for amp racks etc. That's why I was wondering how I needed to design my enclosure in terms of how the subs need to face.

From now on...I have no backseat. Just a glorified regular cab with 4 doors.
