Amp power distribution

Recommended Posts

I am getting two 600w rms 4ohm subs and I am getting a mono amp. I was wondering If I wired both subs together into the amp, How would the power be split to goto each sub. Also Would it drop the impedance to 2ohms. So if it did that would I have to get DVC subs? So, for two 600w rms subs single or dual voice coil subs, what would be a good mono amplifier to use to push them to the full 600 watts. Thanks

Two speakers of equal impedance wired to the same channel of an amp will divide the power produced by that channel equally.

There's no reason to feel that you need to send a sub or speaker its rated power. With music you'll never get there anyway. If you're planning to choose the subs and then an amp to match, decide if you want single or dual coil, what the final wired load will be and then decide what amp will give you the power you want into that load. For 2 dual 4 ohm coil subs rated at 600rms the Sundown SAE-1000d should do well for a decent price. The SAZ-1500D is more expensive but more powerful and overbuilt, too. There are also a ton of other companies out there that make amps ranging from decent to superb that will suit the application. A recommendation would be based on budget. What's yours?

My budget for Subs is probably between $300-$500 the budget for an amp is probably the same as well. So $1000 total. I want something that hits pretty hard. I live in a small town in Tennessee. So there aren't that many different Sub and amp applications around here. Mostly JL, Memphis, MTX, and Sony Xplod(Yuck!). I found some Cerwin Vega 15"s I liked. But I am not sure.

What type of music you listen to? How much space you willing to give up for the sub enclosure? What's the rest of the system?

I listen to Alot of alternative music (I.e. Chevelle, 30 Seconds to Mars, Crossfade) but I also listen to Rap, mostly when I am trying to show off. I listen to ALOT of Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid. They have alot of bass in their songs but they also incorporate alot of rock riffs and melodies. I just blew up the engine in my Taurus today so I am going to the dealership this week to look at a Ford Fusion. I never haul stuff in the trunk so whatever room I need for the enclosure will be fine for me. The rest of my system is a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB, Pioneer TSA6871R 6x8's (Two sets), Lanzar Vibe276. I am getting new subs soon.
