well i got jacked for my system a while back. 1 week my HU, next week my amp, left the sub couldnt get it out or didn't want it. now i want to do my do an SQ system. The only thing i got are some 6.5" on the doors and a HU. i'm going to do it on my 01 Sierra reg. cab for the sub i wanna get a Fi Q 10 or 12 not sure yet.

A really good front stage and a substage that blends with it.

Do you have pictures of your doors, and how the speakers are mounted?

You can find a IASCA SQ cd to help tune the system. I know it was a learning tool for me.

the speakers are just on there replacing the factory ones nothing fancy

Sq systems can be very simple (a set of good components (ran passively) and a sub with decent amplifiers), sound deadening is a must. A decent headunit with a 7 band eq is generally enough, especially one that has time alignment features. If not than your best bet is getting an eq.

As for amps, headroom is the key for good sound with no distortion.

As for speaker location, minimizing the path length difference will help with imaging.

From there it can get expensive and complicated very easily. You can run a 30 band eq, with multiple sets of components, or you could do compression horns, electrostats, ribbon midranges etc...

As for amps, thd isn't critical, you are looking for a company with a decent reputation, and overall good clean power. You don't need Audison amps and McIntosh decks, but they do have their plusses.

SQ gets expensive very fast.

"Front stage" is a very ephemeral term for your soundstage and the equipment that produces it...basically, what and where you hear things. A competition CD like IASCA's tells you exactly where certain instruments are supposed to be, for example, if there's a cymbal on the left side of the stage in real life, it better be on the left side of your vehicle. Or if a singer's recorded dead center, your system would reproduce that realistically.

Since you are in a truck, all you should need is a good set of front components to achieve a desirable volume. Some kick panels will help with the path length difference, but a second set of tweets in the a-pillars might be necessary to raise the sound stage up to a desirable height.

so far what ill need is a good HU,

good components+amp, for voice

sub+amp, for bass

tweets on a pillar, more voice

and sound deadning

i dont know about kick panels i use my e-brake alot

maybe if i customize them???

I wouldn't run a second set of tweets unless absolutely neccessary.

"Subs" imply sub-bass...midbass speakers reproduce midbass

You don't *need* to do kickpanels, but it'd help to get a picture of your door so we could see what you're working with.

My advice would to see if you can find someone in your area with a quality sq setup. Then take a listen . Or go to a high end home stereo retailer and have a listen in the demo room .

no to double tweets. I have only heard 2 cars with double tweets, but both cars were horrible using this method. best thing to do is figure out speaker placement. start with the mids first in different positions and then try to find a good location for the tweets.

Dude, I competed in iasca for sq for the last two years, just doing spl as a change of scenery.

I know in my buddies truck he runs two sets of tweeters, as long as they are on the same horizontal axis and attenuated lower they work great. My buddy is the husband of Kristen from team image dynamics.

exactly...carguy is a beginner at this sport, so i think that he should hear easier options than running 2 sets of tweets. it's your car carguy, but as ramos stated, find someone with a good setup and a ton of knowledge to help you out before you do anything. I have help from people such as Joe Black(Iasca and Meca sq world champion,Keith Turner(one of the best tuners in the nation),Jeff Smith(one of the best installers/tuners in the nation),Will Reinholtz(Iasca ultimate competitor and sq judge) and if they are not available, I always have ssa members such as Ramos and Dave Edwards that can offer advice. I trust all of these guys to help because they all believe in simple solutions. Contact Dave Edwards on this site. He has a killer 2 way setup and could probably offer you some good advice. Good luck with the project and take some progess pics once you start.

Well , going by the pictures. If you run stock locations your gonna need a heaping helping of Time alignment on the mids . Don't know if you have dash locations , if you do they might be a good place to start with the tweets mounted . In my limited sq experience , there is no such thing as right or wrong. Only what works well in your installation in your vehicle. Be prepared to take some time just sitting in your vehicle listening , change aiming slightly, and more listening. Over and over until you are satisfied. Don't be afraid to try different things. Not every idea is a winner, but you never know until you try. I would also add , don't fall into the audiophool line of thinking that expensive always means it's better. You can do amazing things with what others consider crap if you take your time with it and do it right.
