mj 18 IB

Recommended Posts

There has been much talk about it, but I have not come across anyone posting a finished project yet.

You would probably want to go with ~250-300 watts. The MJ-18 was able to take 225 watts at 20Hz without showing any real stress.

I wanted to do it (still do) but I am a bass head at heart and I dont think it would have the output I desire.

It certainly wouldn't give you the volumes that ported boxes do, that's for sure...

So I started kicking around this IB thing after reading this thread. Ive kicked it around before but have a few questions.

I read somewhere to be a true IB that you need atleast 11.3ft^3 per driver. so for two 18's I would need almost 23ft^3, is that correct?

If thats not the case, which would work better IB the 15's or the 18's? and what kind of power for either one? I asked this question in my old thread but that was lost in the data mishap a few months ago.

I think I might be willing to give IB a try beause if worse comes to worse I can always remove the baffle and put the subs in a box. I just have to choose my amps wisely so I dont have to buy amps twice.

any input woudl be great. If it ends up being something I could do I will start a thread of my own.

theorectically, you need a box that's atleast 27 cubic feet per MJ-18 to put them in an IB alignment

simply separating the front and rear wave with a wall or cieling or floor is the preferred method though

So basically as long as the front and back wave are seperated I am good, correct?

correct, as long as the thing holding in the backwave does not have any affect on the suspension of the driver

The perceived area needed for IB is 10 times that of VAS, but this number is not cast in stone. If you cannot achieve at least 4 times VAS what you will end up with is a very large sealed (or leaky) box.

Best,

Mark
