amp related question

Recommended Posts

I have a 1.5 farad capacitor a friend gave me and I'd like to put it to some good use. I have a small mtx amp powering a pair of JL coaxial 5.25" speakers and a punch800.2 bridged for my RE HC 12". I understand some people are against using caps but I have one so I might as well use it. And generally they are used for the amp powering the sub however, in my case I highly doubt it would do anything noticable. So here's my question:

What would happen if I hooked up the cap to the MTX amp that is powering the front speakers? Would that give the MTX amp a little extra boost? I believe it's a mtx roadthunder and it's pushing maybe 50rms total.

It will do nothing that you will hear. Nothing that you will notice and little that you can measure. Don't bother. I know it was free. If you feel you need to "put it to good use" they make nice doorstops.

Sell it, you might get enough to get a good pizza somewhere.

Maybe the way I asked the question is the first place was a bit biased to begin with but regardless I think I got my answer. Thanks.

Although I just thought about it, and if you audibly can't hear any difference, then as you guys mentioned, it's for show. But couldn't it also be used as a safety device to protect the amp? (since it's wired between the battery and amp)

I dont think it would even do any thing to protect the amp.

Its really just going to be a waste of space and as far as im concerned its just like putting as resistor in the circuit to lose voltage.

Protection in what way? The cap is wired in parallel. That means that there is still a straight shot from the battery to the amp.
