the 12's if they are going to see the same power.

other than enclosure design differences, the 18 still has cone area advantage. Its the same series of woofer so excursion etc. is equal.Full power into the 18 vs. half power into each 12 so the only offset to me would be 18 sealed vs. 12s ported for the 12s to win this!

he didnt say anything about them seeing the same amount of power either so if each twelve gets say 1200 watts each (2400 total) and the 18 gets 1200 the twelves are gonna be louder they are seein twice the power

sd on the 12 is 481cm^2

sd on the 18 is 1210cm^2

That is a 248 cm^2 difference between 2 12s and 1 18. Theoretically giving the 18 the advantage if everything else is the same. If you give the 1 18 1500 watts, or the 2 12s 3000 watts, the 12s could have the advantage. Its a matter of your setup. If you have the room for a good box for an 18, I'd go with 2 15" BLs. just my opinion.

Obviously you didnt understand my post because I was agreeing w/acid burn. I was using variables for examples,I didnt say he was using ported or sealed or power to each etc etc, they were just offsets that affect the outcome.Basicly apples to apples 18 ftw over 2 12s.Now bring enclosures and power variations into it like tejcurrent said the install will decide the win.

i did understand you post all i was saying is that just because the 18 has more surface area doesnt mean that its going to be louder. some one already stated that if they were run of the same power then yes the 18, i was just stating that if each sub was run of maximum power then the 12's would be louder

i just changed out 1 18 for 2 12s. still using the same amp, the 2 12s are "louder" because they are tuned at 32 vs 30. but that is just my situation.

if you really want louder, get the damn BTL. :fing34:
