Running either one MAW-15 or one MJ-18

Recommended Posts

I will be building my own box for the subwoofer, however, I would like to know which subwoofer would work best with the amp I have.

Infinity Reference 611A

456 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (657 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

Which do you guys think I should go with? I know that a larger box will require the subwoofer to take less power, so, in addition to which subwoofer you think I should go with, what box dimensions should I use? I've heard only good about Mach5 subwoofers, so I want to have my very own :takepix:

Well the MAW-15's are dual 4 and the MJ-18s are single 8 or single 4. So, logically the MAW-15 wired to 2 ohms mono in a ported box would be the better choice with that amp I think.

I agree with Denim. MAw15 ported and wired for 2ohms will do a great job. It'll be the easiest to fit in a car too.

A SVC4 MJ-18 would do fine ported on 400ish watts for sure, but I was thinking which choice would get the most out of your amp.

if you can fit it do a mj-18 SVC4 not much power difference + it's a 18" sub it has that WOW effect and I think the mj-18

has better SQ than the maw-15 right?..and your amp will not have to work as hard at 4ohms as it would at 2ohms

i'm looking to achieve SQ. SPL does not really matter to me, I just want nice, clean, deep, bass.

Well price is not a factor since they are nearly identical. Everyone on here that has the MAW-15's has loved them for sure. I can attest to the clarity of the MJ.

i was told that the MAW 15 and the MJ-18 sound better in sealed boxes?? to each their own, but, aren't these woofers meant for SQ?

Mark designs first and foremost with SQ in mind first.
