BTL or BL and what to go along

Recommended Posts

Here is my problem/hold up. I am getting a new truck, one for pure audio fun, full size of course. I will be doing a cut through, so the entire bed is game. I want tons of SPL, enough to make your stomach almost turn. I want 4 15's and am not sure what to go with BTL or BL. I know I need some good amps to push them. What all power wise (wires, alt, extra batteries) would I need and about how much/where can I get a alternator from. I have some crap P3's now and want to do a massive jump up. I got addicted and my friends are killin me, want to destroy them. Thanks

youd need everything you listed, a few runs of 1/0 to the back, at least a 300amp alt, and a few batteries.

and id say go with btl's for the fact that i just got mine in and its rediculously loud. provided you have the money for all of this and a few good amps?

roughly, about how much does the wiring, good alternator, and 2 batteries run $$$$$. Is it a lot. I know the alt will be a few hundred, but that is about it. I will probably have about 5K to spend initially, but I should have a few things done before this initial spending, like the alternator.

Lastly, what is big difference between driver and SPL. I want tons of SPL, but will be driving and pounding it alot. How much of a difference does this make??

youd probably want to buy the 1/0 in a spool, it would be cheaper, i paid 239 JUST for my wiring kit, and it didnt come with 8 guage for the subs. Batteries depend on what you get, yellowtops are arouund 230-40 IIRC, and alts can get expensive...4 fully loaded 15" btls would run you close to $2000, and amps would would probably be the rest of your 5k, save more money?

You can get everything done with $5000.

New alt should be 400ish. Wire should be 200-300. Batterys should be 150-300ea.

I'd say 200amp alt minimum. 2 runs of 1/0 wire (2 power x 2 ground) minimum. And 1 100+Ah battery minimum.

300 amp alt is plenty (depending on car this may not even be possible). 3 runs each power and ground is better (4 ea is best). 2 100+Ah battery is better 3 would be best. Any more than this for a single BTL is overkill (overkill is good)

If you want more than 1600watts, you NEED the minimum mentioned.

Its going to be a big chunk of change. But if you went the (4)BL15 route, and with the power you had mentioned, I can see you doing everything for less than that.

Do not get the SPL versions of any of these subs unless they are for competition use only. If they will see music (and I know they will for your setup) then get the daily driver option.

Thanks,

Scott

I guess once the day finally comes to buy these babies, I will see what my final savings are and work from there. Hopefully I will have a couple extra grand and be able to go with the BTL's, but will find out when that time comes.
