The Album Review Thread

Recommended Posts

This kind of derives from the "Now playing!" thread, but rather than just post what song your music player has going, write up a review of any albums you think need reviews.

Saliva - Blood Stained Love Story:

For anyone listening to rock on the radio, this is the album which holds the track "Ladies and Gentlemen". The sad thing is, going through this album and the whole concept of love and loss the album tries to follow, it's totally out of place. In fact, in my opinion a better name for the album should be "Cookie Cutter Love Story" because many of the 10 songs on the album are dull and uncreative, which is another reason "Ladies and Gentlemen" is out of place. I easily forget which song is which because they all sound alike with the exception of "Ladies and Gentlemen" which is unique and memorable. As far as I'm concerned, this is a one track wonder.

Tristania - World of Glass

This album represents the pinnacle of the Gothic Rock band Tristania. It has 9 tracks. The highlights of this album is a choir singing in Latin, a heavily antagonistic atmosphere, and most importantly, Vibeke Stene's voice. The album itself is a shock-value collection of black metal highlighting war, the end of the world, and even being sacrificed from the point of views like the Goddess of war, a spectator, and even an accused witch (respectively). The instrumentals are spotless. The lyrics are meaningful albeit a little senseless sometimes. The growling voices are understandable but a little overused IMO. A lyrics sheet will be necessary to understand what's going on is some songs. Vibeke Stene, as always, is a siren from the tales of Odysseus. I recommend this album on the grounds that you won't find music like it, with similar levels of creativity or effort, on any normal album.

9/10 - Attempted Perfection
