polyfil/install questions

Recommended Posts

okay i will be getting everything that's in my room installed either today or tomorrow depending on the shop's availiability. but i would really like to know how to stuff my box with polyfil. i went to wal-mart and found that they come in pillow shapes like 12 x 8 or somethin and they are different sizes. now am i supposed to just buy a couple of those and cut them open and dump what's inside into my box or what? i have a 2.3 cubes sealed box after displacement. how many of these things should i buy?

now this question should probably be somewhere else but hey i'm using stereo integrity products so i thought i'd just get all the help i can at once. since i will be getting it 'professionally' installed, what should i tell them about my stuff. i want an sq application and here is what i have:

single 15'' mag D2 in a sealed 2.37 cubes after displacement box

focal utopia 136W speakers which i want in stock locations

a single srx-series audison amp which puts out 170 x 2 @ 4 ohms

a single srx-series audison amp which puts out 600 x 1 @ 4 ohms

my HU will be an eclipse 8443

this will all be going in a 00 nissan maxima with bose in stock for sound. with these products should i just hand them the specs of each and tell them how i want everything wired or is there anything special that i should tell them to do? please just tell me anything you guys can about getting your high quality stuff professionally installed thanks.

it costs a little more sometimes but you can tell them to make sure to use all new speaker wire etc. instead of splicing into your factory wire. It should help on the SQ a little. I had some components put in my car a month or so ago and I noticed they just spliced into my factory wire. I felt kinda ripped off after seeing that since I paid quite a bit for the install. So I plan on running speaker wire through the doors and into the car to my crossovers and not use any factory wire. It will take some time fishing the wire through the door, but will be worth it. and I need to get my crossovers in a better location.

so just make sure you know where you want your crossovers and other stuff like that to be. Some people just throw them in the door. this was done to me on my MB Quart Q series and the crossover got fried do to water leaking down on them. Make sure they put in a big enough power/ground wire. I have found that unless you tell them what size you want that they don't always put in the correct size. Hopefullly you are not getting it done at a place that likes to cut corners and not tell you all the details. I have had my fair share of that.

good luck and enjoy.

where is a quality place to put my crossovers. i was just going to put them in the door but if that isn't the best place what are some other options? also, do you have any suggestions on the polyfill issue. do i just go to wal-mart and buy the pillow that the polyfil comes in and just cut it open and dump it in my box or what? thanks.

as far as the polyfill goes, I have the same question you do. I need to add it to my box. just never have done it before.

as for the crossovers, mine are under the dash but I will be getting them out from there and either in the trunk or under the seat, or something.
