So when do I get a sample some of that M Powa?

When I added the relay, I got good results. But when I switched to the P9 combo, everything went silent. I never thought silence could sound sooooooooooo good!

Added relay = no improvement.

Removed alternator from system, and there was no noise when the car was on, but never improved the higher than Id like noise floor... but I am going to do it again and make sure.

Moved ground (for the third time) = no improvement.

So, ya... going to try removing the alternator from the charging system again, and go from there. If that doesn't help... I am going to be contacting US Amps for more insight.

I also am going to find someone with an amp I can borrow to see if I can narrow it down more.

Just removed alternator from the system again... definately has removed the loud noise while the car is running, but the high noise floor is still there.

Tomorrow I am going to hook the amp directly to my battery if I can find one to use, then use my Ipod & see if the noise floor is still there or not.

If it disappears, then I'll go get some more wire & run the ground right to the battery.

Ran ground directly to the battery... no change, same deal.

I don't have time to remove the battery & do a direct hookup today... I'll attack that tomorrow.

You used these amps in your previous install didn't you? I assume there was no noise before?

I've had this noise on the 1600.4 since I installed it. I never took the time to listen to the 2000d before this happened.

I also removed the 1600.4 yesterday, and ran just the 2000d (and vise versa)... noise was still present.

I just now ran a ground from the battery to the neg. on the alternator... and the same for the positive. No change.

Also ran a ground from the deck to the battery... no change.

So, that leaves the battery, or BOTH amps.

The battery can't be the problem. No way it could have a ripple on the output. The amps, probably the design, are the problem. That I will almost guarantee. I'm having a similar issue with one of my older PG amps and I know it to be a problem with the amp.

Since it is still in the car there could be some strange load in the car causing a ripple.

I didnt end up getting those amps to test yet... I'm just going to go out and buy a PDX4.150 today instead. Remember when I said budget? :lol:

I had the same problem with the Xtant amps I was using. It switched them from unbalanced to balanced (even though I am running unbalanced) and it went away. Not sure if that will help, but I thought I would throw that out.

Oops, I meant the 4.100, although the 4.150 is in the books as well... along with some IB, since I found a good air strut I can use to lift the lid. Now I can get it of the torsion bars that it came with, and use the whole rear deck for either the 3-10s or the MJ18. (Ya... can you say, can't make up his damn mind?) I plan on making the baffle changeable with EZ-LOCs so I can see which I like best.

Then use a 4.150 to run the 8s, and the IB subs(s).

These things are so tiny... half the size of the XT1600.4

Not an option on the XT series.

It is a power supply issue. O well... I'll just get it fixed.

Well, now that the noise issue is out of the way... time to get some work done!

Removed the torsion bars that are used to lift the trunk lid, and installed an air strut.

I need to either find a stronger strut, or get another one, as it is not strong enough to actually lift the lid any... just strong enough to hold the lid up when it is completely open.

Now, onto the subwoofer enclosure & amp rack. Lately I have been teeter totter'ing on whether to go IB or not... well, I've decided not to for now. This is what I have come up with:

Yep, 18" of fury. The amp rack is the cubby hole on the left side of the enclosure.

The enclosure will house a MJ-18 from Mach5 Audio, and the amp rack will rock out with some Alpine PDX amps.
