If I wanted to divide my rectangular port right down the center for some extra bracing, will my port length have to stay the same or does it change since I technically have 2 seperate ports now???

instead of dividing it, why not brace it with some dowels, like every 8 inches with a 1" diameter dowel.

I'll help you answer the question yourself. Do one 4"x2" port and two 2"x2" ports and see what you come up with.

How big is your port that you think that the port needs bracing?
