10" or smaller sub

Recommended Posts

Ok so it seems like every major company is coming out with new slim subs. I can't interpret T/S parameters that well and i don't have experience with any of them so give me some options. I'm looking for a sub for the fiero. It will be going one of two sucky places.

#1 in the console between the seats (meaning the sub would be firing about 17" away from my nose) this would require an extremely shallow sub but could be up to 10" in diameter (could fit a 12 but airspace would never be sufficient)

#2 in the passenger kickpanel area (but in the corner closer to the center of the vehicle) which means it'd be firing towards the passenger for this i'm thinking mpyre 6.5s woudl work nicely (2 of them) but i have no experience with them and the price tag is not inviting. I also need to crawl under the vehicle and see how much free space i have in front of the gas tank as i might be molding a box in there. What i hate about this is it just isn't aesthetically pleasing to see a sub firing at your crotch.

#3 i guess i could technically go all out and put a sub in the trunk or boot(?) and port it into the cabin but with all the other work i'll be doing this is a project that would probably never get finished.

either way i'm severely limited on space, i'll have 7's in the doors if it kills me, so i don't need midbass, i'll have that covered. I need a sub that'll get low and stay accurate, i know shallow subs aren't notorious for the former, no idea about the latter.

How much space and depth do you have/

well in the center console, i might be able to squeeze out .25cubes, but even that would require relocation of the computer. In the passenger floor i think i can manage a cube.

here's some links that i've been looking at.

EDIT: durrr

Based on nothing but my gut I like the TB better, but don't like any of the solutions. Any reason you can't just use a larger MB in your doors? My tentative Pantera plan is to run a 3 way without sub...Aura 10's may find their way hung on the doors though. :)

i really don't think i'll have the room for 8s in the door, though that would be extremely nice.

the other thing i've been considering is spending WAYYYY too much on mids...like say these...

http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi...58&pid=1178 or an usher 7"

my door pods can have plenty of space, i can probably even get them over a cube without too much trouble.

i can't find the exceptionally high priced mid i was looking at before, i'm thinking it was around $200/mid

kicker cvts. the 10's are 4 3/16 deep, but come with a metal plate and gasket so one can gain even more clearance behind the motor. they don't require massive boxes, handle 400wrms easily and get low. they are accurate as well. i have 4 of them in the silverado.

i have messed with three shallow mounts, clarion, pioneer and kicker. and it isn't even close. kicker hands down.

another option, kicker ssmb 8s. yeah, they are designed as midbasses, but they will drop to 30hz. and they are shallow as hell. i happen to have a pair of the rmb8s NIB, sitting on my office floor.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

I have no experience with the Kicker SS drivers, but the RMB8s they replaced were outstanding drivers. No need for a sub with them in a well-deadened door, so I imaging their replacements are even better.
