SPL BLs used for Daily

Recommended Posts

My brother just ordered four fully loaded BL 15s. Let me start with saying they are SWEET!!!! He ordered them with the SPL option, but he will probably listen to them as he goes to and from work. I will assume not at full tilt, but fairly loud. Will the whole world come to an end or will they work for that? Thanks, Lee

The gap is significantly tighter in the SPL motors...he stands a good chance of rubbing the coil if listening to music.

He also got the universal feature, should be send them in and get them changed or will they work? Does anyone know what kinda spl difference there is in the SPL version and the Daily version? Thanks, Lee

Can't change them, you would have more money in them because the motors would have to be baked and disassembled plus shipping both ways plus re-coning both of the woofers.

You'd be better off selling them (if you have a problem with the coil scrubbing) and buying the daily driving ones. Run them and see what happens..just be careful, you stand a really good chance at scrubbing the coil up.

The universal feature does allow for any of the coils in that series to be swapped in and out. But it sets the gapping relative to the pole tolerences selected (SPL or Daily). With the SPL tolerences things are much tighter and are designed strictly for SPL. With the daily tolerences things are designed to have a little looser gapping to allow for less coil rub and rock issues for daily applications. For those that wish to use a sub for both daily and weekend SPL, we recommend the daily versions.

Can he run the SPL subs daily? Probably, but we do not recommend it.

Thanks,

Scott
