How much amperage do I need?

Recommended Posts

Running a strapped pair of Sundown 1500d's at 2ohm daily, and .5 for comps.

Kinetik 1400 up front, two 1800's in the back.

Or, to the point, will an excessive amperage 200a be ok?

Make sure to measure your actual impedance at burp frequency. If you strap at 0.5 ohms that is 0.25 per amplifier and is in no way covered under warranty. So if you get careless and smoke them at a comp you will have to pay for repairs.

To answer the question... you will be looking at around 340 amps draw @ 2 ohms strapped, and around 530 amps strapped a 0.5 ohms -- these figures are at 12.8 volts based on Loyd's testing.

Comps would just be burping ~40hz. So impedance rise should keep me safe. No music at .5ohm...ever

Like I said, be sure to measure actual impedance to be sure. I've had guys burping them really low "nominal" for comps but they have all measured actual impedance before trying it.

Basically, if I'm making 2400w at 12.5v ill need 192 amps.

Besides burps, I don't think I'll get a ported setup to 2400w...(1200w sealed was almost too much last system).

I guess I'll be cool.

Thanks...and I'll watch the impedance.
