Too much power.......

Recommended Posts

Ok, I just purchased the new 18" RL-p (D4). The problem I have is the only amp I have is an Orion 2500d. :puzzled: It'll do 1800w rms @ 2ohm. The 18" is rated at 1000-1200w rms (I think). Would I be ok with turning down the gains? I dont have another amp at this time. I do plan on sending in an RE 12.1 amp I have in great condition to get fixed. It "rattles" when you move it. When I bought it, I was told that it was BNIB. When I opened it, it was making the rattling noise. The guy I bought it from wont return my PM's, emails, calls, etc. Any info on how I can make it work would be great. Thx guys, Vic. :coolugh:

I co-sign with the above two... if the two 12s I run can handle 1800 that one 18 should easily handle the 1200-1500 you will be giving it with the gains down. :)

One more thing. Will 5cubes, and 2 6" areo ports be good for this sub?

I have been using my 2500D for everything lately, and keep in mind I have more than one sub amp to choose from. It has done a great job for me from anything as low as .75ohm and as high as 8ohm. My RL-p 12 held the full brunt of the 2500D @4 ohms, so just be smart about it and you will be fine.

5ft^3 and two 6" aeros should be plenty. probably not optimum, but in car, more then adequate.

and i'll wager that 18 will hold that 2500d @ 2ohm easily. like denim mentioned above, my rl-p 12 has more then held it's own on one @ 4 ohm daily. also, it saw the full brunt @ 1 ohm on more then one occasion as well.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

As far as port noise and vent velocity, that is perfectly fine. I think you'll find that a fairly long port will be required (almost 30" long) to reach an Fb around 35 Hz.
