RL-i8 Enclosure

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all,

I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this topic is already covered elsewhere.

I currently have my RL-i8 installed in a modified tube enclosure. I am wanting to put in something nice, and so am looking for recommendations for a high quality sealed box. Does anyone know of any good brands to look into? I'm looking to save trunk space, but give the sub a nice box.

I'd appreciate the help.

Greg, right? First off, sealed boxes are very forgiving to small errors in construction - so if you don't mind taking a couple of hours to break out the tape measure, saw up some wood (MDF - medium density fiberboard), slap on some glue 'n screws, caulk the joints and paint her over.. you could save yourself some cash (which could be used to buy your own tools), and might even have some fun puttin' your own sweat into your finished product!

Of course, time constraints can be a pain in the ass, and if for whatever reason you just don't want to do it yourself, you might try finding someone here on the forums who lives nearby and could help ya.. I know there are a few with the skills and who would be willing - you just gotta be mindful of distance, as long distance shipping can tack on unecessary expense. All else failing, you might try a service such as www.klausaudio.com -- Good luck!

if you dont have the time or the tools, talk to mrray13, he has bulit a few sealed boxes for the RL-i8. IIRC he owns the first production RL-i 8 also.

yep, i do!! and yep, i have.

hell, i have a mike recommended .17ft^3 net sealed enclosure just attracting dust at the moment. if your interested, pm me and we'll haggle. and it's got rounded corners, just waiting for a good finish.

or, if your wanting something more, pm me, we'll haggle. lol. i've done sealed, transmission line and ported for the rl-i8. it excels in all.

btw, i'm in illinois.

not knocking kent at all, he does damn fine work, but i highly suggest doing it yourself just for the experience. Even if you have to get Lowe's or home depot to cut the wood, it's quite easy to make sealed boxes.

i think almost everyone who doesn't have to do it everyday finds a strange joy in making boxes, i know i do when i have the spare time.

oh yeah I know that, didn't mean to make you think I was being a smarta** or anything. I apologize if I did though. I know I seen a thread w/ the rli-8's mounting depth and such details, do you know where I could find that on here also? Sorry for the thread jack mr sparkelo.

i'm just south of carbondale. i work in caterville. no rl-i 8 installed, but it would only take a minute to remedy that. i have no clue where hamel is. hit me up sometime. i'm off every sunday and monday, and more if needed, lol.

as to box building. i'm with vladd. nothing more satisfying then doing it yourself. but if time, tools don't allow, i'm all ears, lol.

oh yeah, check out soundsplinter.com for all the rl-i8 info you need!
