Hifonics Zeus 7500 vs. JL 500/1

Recommended Posts

Plan on using the Hifonics, rated at 750w rms for my SSD 12" coming in soon but I was thinking about a JL 500/1 which is a class D versus A/B on the Hifonics. Is $150 a good deal for a used JL 500/1? I would think the JL offers a clean 500w and I've read the Hifonics are overrated.

Which one would you guys go for?

Thanks!

Sunny

That is a good deal on the 500/1.

<<<Preference based on opinion not rock solid fact>>>>

If the amps are within 40 bucks price difference I would take the HiFonics over the JL any day. In my OPINION JL is an overpriced product at damn near any price.

I think thew HiFonics would last longer, have an accurate voltage, and be more flexable with future installs. Plus the JL amp will not make any higher output at decreased resistence. The Hifonics (if memory is correct) will.

Henceforth,

Go hifonics.

J

I'm a Hifonics guy for budget amps. But if your electrical can handle the piss poor efficency of the 500/1 and you can get a working 500/1 for that price I'd go JL. You might be able to dump it for a little extra cash in the end.

piss poor efficiency? compared to what? the hifonics? i own a nemesis, which is rated 750wrms@ 1ohm, clips well before that (off a factory deck and a LOC @ half gain, by oscope) and at full tilt will make the lights dim worse then a orion 2500d @ 1ohm(2500wrms @ 1ohm, not one of these new peak rated shits) and full tilt.

in all honesty, the jl is definitely the best buy in this case. 500wrms regardless of voltage and impedance. at $150 your truly getting a bargain.

That Hifonics is A/B... 500/1 is D...their efficency is probably right about the same, Hifonics may have the upper hand. For a class D amp the 500/1 has piss poor efficency.

at full tilt..a/b and d are so close, it doesn't really matter in most cases. only at lower volumes does d have any kind of real advantage. and in my experience, the jl is going to kill the hifonics.

Thanks for all the replies. :) The deal fell through and in all honesty, I probably jumped the gun a little bit. I already have an amp and thinking about it a little more, why not see how it sounds with the SSD first? I just got excited over a prospective 500/1 at $150. :)

My Hifonics bumped the crap out of my Diamond M3s, which were rated at 250w rms so hopefully I'll get around the same output.

Man, I can't wait for the sub to come in! Still have to build the box but I'm excited for that too. :)

Thanks again for all the replies and this site is a wealth of info.
