New Mag Enclosure

The only problem I have with it is the port will be unloading about 4 1/2" away from the side of the truck. This is a 7 1/2" port mind you. I'd like to get some opinions on wether or not I should go through with it or move back to an upfiring port and move the mags on the baffle to as far on the passenger as I can get them and make the box completely rectangular.

why not do it simmetrical ? subs in the sides. port in the middle ?

btw, what program did you draw it in ?

This for your truck Chris? If so, I have had the best response with the drivers in the middle and as low as possible on the baffle with the vent on the same plane. Just something to think about.

That is just Google Sketch. It is a free program similar to old 3D CAD programs that ran in DOS. :)

What I'm looking for here is SPL gain. If it didnt matter I'd be a lot more simple. In trucks subs up port side or subs forward port up is considered loudes. Just like in hatches subs up port back and subs forward port back are considered loudest. :)

Thanks Ryan. I have a few ideas mixing. This is the idea Casey has suggested.

I need to find someone who does bassrace with a Mini that will talk... :(

I have never seen this bassrace in person, I might have to go to one close by just to see it in operation

Personally it is a lot more exciting than dB Drag. Almost every match at a decent competition is something worth watching. dB Drag you just go Fart...look there is my number. Next guy farts and his number is either higher or lower. Unless they are close and then everyone sits on the car they want to win and he burps agian to try and gain a tenth or two it's like "ok...wow."

Bassrace, on the otherhand, is an average for the full 30sec so the competitors are constantly working their systems trying to get a perfect 1XX.9.

On top of that, you can have a system that retains 100% SQ and still compete compedetively. I absolutely love the SQ of my system and I am quite compedetive in my class.

Personally, I'd space the drivers further apart.

If you are just racing, why are you moving more towards SPL with those Mags? The other direction would make more sense to me.

Overhead, it is a must. This box is the same volume and tuning and almost the same port area (a little more actually). I wouldnt think moving the drivers would hurt SQ all that much. Besides, I want to be in the 150 club either way. Right now I'm 3dB shy. I could be wrong but wouldnt moving the drivers togather make them act more like a single woofer...which is what you want both for your ears and for the Mic. Moving them further along the baffle is just for wave path differences where the sensor is placed. :)

Ah BS, focus on SQ and compete at 139 then. Problem solved.

Speaking of SQ...I need to dump these RE componets. And go active agian. And get a more powerful head unit. All while saving for two proms, a Hobie Cat, college, and Sundown 100.4.

I have some organs up for sale guys.

50Hz is a ~20 foot long wave length, it makes no difference where the drivers are loaded. You want it louder, tune it higher or add more woofers.

How does it not make a difference? Cabin response (tranfer function), cancellation, and reflections have to be taken into effect. If that were the case, you could throw a woofer anywhere in the vehicle and have the same readings no matter the placement.
