Sealed box for 2 Maw12s

Recommended Posts

The site says 1cuft per sub ...so should I go 2cuft net for both...or a lil more? lets say 2.2 cuft for both

And also...I am thinking of getting a Lanzar Opti2000d. Is that a good choice for these subs?

the opti will give them 350wrms (which they are rated at) @ 4ohm

Thanks

my first post here :P

I can't really give you much of an opinion on the amp, however, if you're going for spl over quality, I'd stay with the recommended 2 ft^3. However, if you're like me and want quality over quantity, I'd go with 2.2 or even larger to increase capability down low.

Although this is my first build ever...im pretty sure i want more SQ than SPL..so i'll go for maybe 2.3 cuft..you think i will hit around 120 db with 2 sealed at 700 watts?

which amp do you run or you would run?

I'm fairly certain you could hit 120 dB with 700 watts to two 12" drivers. One of my friends has a single 12" Audiobahn and he can max out my RadioShack SPL meter at 126.

Actually, I don't even have a car to put a sound system in; I'm only doing a home audio setup in my bedroom (when my parents lets me buy stuff), so I can't give any recommendations for car amps (Behringer EP2500 anybody :D ). Sorry.

Can't say that I am a Lanzar fan, but wtf it will probably do most of what you ask.

I think im going the kicker route...im thinking about zx1500.1 ...that will give the subs around 740watts @ 4 ohm and plenty of power for upgrading in the future

M5..what do u think about the sealed box size? 2.3 good enough?

Hi Bigrock,

A 1 cube box gives a Qtc of ~0.54 and a decent F3 for the box size. Going larger will decrease Qtc and result in a higher F3. You may not notice the difference, but you can always experiment with adding fibreglass or polyfill. This can increase box "volume" by up to 30%.

Add 0.2 cubes for driver volume (each).

Best,

Mark

2.3 shouldn't be too far off, as Mark stated you can get a little more perceived space by stuffing the box.

How are you comming up with a Qtc of ~0.54 in 1 cu ft? When I enter the data into WinISD, I get a Qtc of ~0.758. Is this a discrepency with WinISD calculations?

My post is based on one driver only - this could be where the discrepancy is. Perhaps I should have mentioned that - sorry.
