The Towncar (with updates)

The finish doesnt look blotchy in person. I dont know why it shows up like that on camera.

My hands got dirty because the adheasive is so runny. The paper is piss poor and continued to tear so I would have to start it agian. Second Skin is just a superior product.

Must be operator error, I can't believe that you had Raamat troubles. The adhesive works really well and it comes off the paper fine. Of course, I have only used 7 total rolls so perhaps there is some fluctuation but I have never seen it.

don't have an opinion on SS vs RM, as i've not used either, but i still wouldn't pay for that install like that. it's ghetto. unless you billed it as such, there isn't anything custom about that trunk. and please tell me the wires in the trunk will be hidden and not just ran on top of the carpet like that.

and the paint is blotchy, the camera's eye will almost always pick up what we can't see.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Who said anything about doing custom trunk work? Custom work was the tweeters in the dash and I was going to do door pods, but it worked out better to put them in the door and do more work to the doors. The trunk is not near finished. I still have to mount the crossovers and hide all of the wires. When it is all said and done you wont see any wires. Just the box, the amps, and the two crossovers. The spare tire will be mounted in it's stock location and easily acessed and there is still room to put three full doccer bags in the trunk. I did exactly what he wanted.

How can you say the paint is blotchy with out seeing it in person? The paint has reflective sparkles in it and is textured. That could possibly account for the blotchness on camera. When I painted I did a 1st coat, then on the 2nd coat I ran a texture roller on it to give it more volume, then did a third coat. On the back it is very blotchy...but it got two flat cloats as I just wanted to put some color on it. It wont be seen, just like the bottom wont be seen.

It is very stickey, it is also very runny. It is a lot like old asphault sound deadening. SS is stickey, but you can reposition it and it is solid. If it sticks lightly you can pull it and move it. Once you roll it on, however, it does not come off easily. If you do suceed to pull it off it will come off and not leave a black residue. I tried that with RAAMatt...it came off much easier and left a black residue. You guys may like it. I will pay the extra $0.20 a sqft in the future.

im not feelin the box. the subs look squeezed onto the face of it like there was barely enough room. and i know the trunk is big enough that it shouldn't hafto look like that.

The box is fine, trust me. I listened to it for 30min today. These SSD's wang hard. I havent touched the back deck or the back seat and it deffanitely sounds like it's over 140 already. Takeing out hte rear speakers and the padding behind them and cutting away the foam where the arm rest is and replaceing it with aluminum mesh, removeing the pressure bladder for just a hole and letting the SSD's brake in and I have no doubt I will reach my goal of 143dB. The box was built that way for a reason, the trunk had to still remain somewhat of a trunk. :)

The back bumper is the onlything rattleing. The cheap plastic is flexing like 1"

Slightly subjective, no?

Reguardless, if it's loud to my ears it will be loud to his. The box has survived being smacked around and a good ammount of beating already. Putting my hand on the box I cant detect any vibration. Today or tomarrow I will get it on the Mic. :)

regardless..

you could have done what you did with a prefab, and looked better doing it. even with the wires hidden, that is ghetto. i honestly can't believe you even remotely think that looks okay.

i also like your ear meter. sounds like a 40 to me. great, lol. i hope, for you, the meter shows your ears are tuned. and a pair of 15s in a trunk with ~1500wrms, should get there. if not, something is wrong. low 40's are easy. even in a trunk.

for our sake, i hope you don't do another build log. hurts our eyes. of course, just your everyday posts and the deciphering that goes along with them, hurts the eyes as well.

Well if that is what is felt then I will leave on my own. I thought SSA was different from other forums. I cant beleive people have obsessed over this project.

*SNIFF SNIFF**

Go cut yoursefl you silly little emo faggot. I cannot believe you get this fudgeing ass hurt over people giving you the typed version of the verbal beatdown you never get. Dude upon further review of your pics, at least hide the fudgeing wiring you piece of chit. This project says absolutly NOTHING positive about your install skills. Now if you were a) brand new to this B) not being payed and c)would take advice when given then none of this would happen.

I am agreeing 100% with kent on this one. You need to leave. Take some time off, get your head out of your three point of contact, get some pills that they give people with alzheimer so your head can move faster than 2 old people fudgeing in a photograph. Also get some vagisil, and a shovel so you can get the sand out of your snatch and clean it up a little bit.

Goodbye chris, and good riddence.

But alas, this has just shown your immaturity as well.

Getting paid? That's $200 and change before I had to buy all of the little things to do the install right. Let's say that I did the door speakers right, did the head unit right, and ran the wires correct. How much do you think it would cost to have that done at the average shop? A WHOLE lot more than $200. Consider the amps and enclosure freebees at that rate.

Taking time? Well unlike an installer at a professional shop I have another job that comes first, college classes that come before that, and AP highschool classes that come before that. Incase you do not know this time of the year is when you really have to buckle down and study, which is where the majority of my time is put. Besides, this kid doesnt get his license for another two months, he knew this would be a side project in all of the other things. Besides, who are you all to care? The install. What is funny is the only thing that is remotely ''unprofessional'' is the enclosure. Which I might add is plenty loud. What do you have to say about it? You dont like the baffle and the paint looks blotchy from 700 miles away. You make comments about wires from a picture that was only intended to show the speakers in the box. even after I said I still need to hide the wires.

Take advice? Have you ever thought that you dont have to do everything someone sayout your project? especially on the internet. Way to go you if you do. Personally I like to find things out on my own. I'll listen to suggestions and take them into consideration, perhaps if things where presented that way instead of "you do this" I would have considered them a whole lot more. Taking your own route with suggestions and help from others is how things should be done. Doing excactly as others do or doing what others tell you to do is how you end up with cookie cutter installs. I understand you where questioning the integrity of the enclosure but before I was going to drop everything and build another one I was going to see if this enclosure would perform as desired. It did. The owner is going to have a listen today. By the way, it hit a 142.5 before rear deck modification. If he wants more I will discuss with him other enclosure options. What else have I though of? Kent's suggestion of up firing.

Take a brake? OK, fine. I will take a brake indeffanitely.

And quoting yourself isn't cool man. Just explain all this in the beginning, either way prahaps in the future explain WORK IN PROGRESS at the begining.

just for reference...

h/u install at my shop, your radio, our parts (this is for this lincoln)= $105

your componets, our labor= $75

your amps, our wires, using 0 gauge= $375

prefab encloure= $120

custom enclosure=$200

with a custom box, your friend would have paid $780. labor guaranteed forever, as well the box. i threw prefab in there as that is what yours looks like. not too mention, memphis makes a quality prefab. in any case, your right. he would have paid more, but he would have gotten a custom job front to back. and i'd wager the numbers would be everybit as good, if not better.

also, when we are presented a budget, we build around that, so those prices are not set in stone.

lastly, thanks for considering my suggestion. as i stated earlier, they scream for upfiring subs, side loading ports. you build the box in a tshape. i'll get more pics up soon, not that you'll read this, but it'll be here nonetheless.

like sean mentioned chris, it's not just about this build. it's about your attitude concerning constructive critism. you say you can handle it, but when you get it, you go on the defensive. then we fire back and a war is started. i hope you can understand this and grow from it.
