Just got my Q15" on my doorstep and now the box....

Recommended Posts

Went to lunch today and when I got back to the office there are 2 big boxes on the doorstep. I didnt realise anything until I saw the USPS logo on the boxes and I know that is may package. As I carried it onto my desk I realised that the sub nearly fell off. After opening it I saw the packaging was terrible. I'm not sure whether it was originally packed that way or the someone else opened it to have a look as there were signs that the box was already opened. Well I am just grateful that the sub make it without any cosmetics defect though.

Anyway thanks Scott for the subs and I cant wait to built a home for it. I'll post pics tommorow. This sub will go into a 3.5 cu. ft. at 30 hz with 900w - 1000w on them. Anyone has any idea how much port area should it be??

thanks

wynold

Note: when I carried the box, the sub was shaking from the inside so I have the feeling that the packaging was not done properly.

The built quality as expected. Good indeed. The sub only have some minor scrathes on the back plate but not visible unless you look very close. The sub weight is heavy. I was fooled with the look and actually when I tried to carry its heavy. Try imagine carry 2 of those. Both are Dual 2 sub.

Have compared it with my bro brahma mk1 15" and the surround was much softer than the brahma. Even the spider was softer. Cosmetics looks perfect except for the excess glue on the spider and dustcap but thats normal.

I havent tested it with a multimeter, probably tonight will do. But I am excited tyo built a house for it to live on. Will post pics later when I start doing my enclosure. Again thanks to Scott for the subs.

yep I'm guessing thats it. But luckily only minor scratches. The blue foam on box no.2 was perfect but box no.1 was badly messed up. I'm imagining how rough it was handled. Btw the sub was shipped to a different country so I was expecting Scott to pack it extra tough though.

I'll post more pics when I start doing the enclosure.

Wow. I have yet to see anything that beat up in shipping. We have honed the packaging quite a ways to the point we were get zero damages in shipping for the least amount of $$$ in packaging material. I have shipped them all over the world and that is the worst Ive seen since we started using the double wall boxes. I am glad they made it there in one piece though. I am wondering if this is a function of the US Postal Service or not (we normally ship via UPS but it was significantly more expensive to do so).

Please keep us all posted as to how they sound once you get them up and running, then again when they are broken in.

Thanks,

Scott

scott, if i remember correctly, appleyard is from canada right? Its probably just customs checking the box because when i got my Q18, the sub was tilted at an angle inside the box and none of the blue foam pads were in place. It shows the rugged all terrain capabilities of the Fi subs haha

Hi appleyard, are you indeed in Canada as johny24 stated? If so what province?

I'm wondering about the shipping to Canada, how much it was?

I've sent email to sales@fi with an inquiry but haven't gotten a response. I'm not in a hurry, so I will wait a few more days :P.

He is a little further to the east than Canada ;) He is in Malaysia so the subs did tend to travel quite a way over the pond. But... the abuse that the boxes suffered is a good reference for shipping overseas via the USPS. I will indeed have to pack things a little more for the trip. Shipping to Canada has proved to be no different than in the states and I havent had an issue whatsoever.

df.dima... I am backed up on emails once again. We have focused this week on getting all the orders out on schedule due to the massive ordering of BLs and all of the extra machining they take. I will get back on track with emails tonight, tomorrow and over the weekend. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks...

Scott

You get what you pay for NEVER NEVER NEVER use USPS unless you want your chit looking like that everytime, and dont think for a minute they werent droped, i could almost gaurantee a shipper while in transit picked it up with out checking the weight and watched it slide right out of his/her hands to the floor.......

Unfortunately USPS is the only "sane" way to ship things for Canadians, because I simply refuse to pay stupid brokerage fees to UPS or Fedex or whoever else that charges a good chunk of money for filling out two papers.

And it's not like USPS is the evil and UPS is a saint, I've heard quite a few horror stories from both.

But this is way off topic and I hope the original poster enjoys his subs a lot! Good luck.

Actually USPS only send the package to Kuala Lumpur (Our capital city) and from there on our local postal service will take over. This is because USPS has no office or authority to send the packages to the specific address. So there are 2 parties who deals with the packages. You might want to guess which one is the guilty party.

I had ordered over the years from the states with USPS but its the first time with sub. All packages received are nothing serious compared to this. Sure UPS are faster but I did mention to Scott in the first place that I would'nt pay for shipping something like cost half of the sub and I would'nt mind waiting a little longer. I was quoted by TC Sound shipping via UPS of $365.72 for a single TC3000 15" which in that case I can get another TC3000 15" for the cost.

Btw I'm not Canadian though, Malaysian :). Scott remembers me well of harrassing his email with questions that he already answer (sorry for that). Btw the sub looks good everytime I look at it. I have not start to build enclosure for it but I'll try to design and post it and see what do you think about it.

thanks

Wynold

Scott

When I tried to model out the Q 15 TS Param into the WinISD I get error and when I tried to key in by sequence, I get different specs value compared to the specs on your site. Could you provide the specs for the Q 15?

thanks

Wynold
