2 15" rlp installed!

Recommended Posts

Initial tests conclude what i had expected. Clean, clear, deep and plenty loud. I feel transients would benefit from a huge ported box but for all intended purposes, the small sealed is sufficient. Rather tight sounding. I love it. Its only day 1.

I forgot to take the camera but here is the finished product. Very crisp, neutral sound. It's evident the subs need some time to loosen up a bit. At uncomortable volumes the subs are moving a CH over 1/4" or so. These are a quality product, and mike is a stand up dude to deal with. A small dent in one of the woofer cones was worth a $70 credit for me. Very pleased with my decision to put faith into soundsplinter. I'm sure these will last a good long time. The box almost received downfiring woofers but for simplicity sake, we mounted them regularly.

Damn 4guage varmit ran amuck in my neatly routed wires. If you excuse me i have to go turn the gain up on my amp :takepix: I wish i had taken better pictures of the build but i just wanted to get it done real fast. It took a good six hours to build wire and mount. Take teh seat out, remove the obsolete subwoofer and box. It'll probably stay unfinished for a long time. If it does get finished, it'll be with gray or tan carpet. Something simple. Who cares what it looks like. It's just a beater. Note the boat antenna clamp and sinch strap mounting system...

P s is what part of the alphabet would look like if q and r were missing

Very nice man, thats alot of moofer right behind the head, the things look huge in that vehicle. That would be a great lookin simple/clean install with the carpet.

You people with 15's give me woofer envy...

Holy crap. Interesting test drive, complete with near head on collision. The front tire, plus some inches, in my lane on a sweeping blind right hand corner up a hill on a country road miles away from town. Preoccupied with how good the woofers sound i instinctively threw the wheel onto the nonexistant shoulder....The inches i created between the oncoming lane prevented a terrible collision with a 2005+ ford f150. Nice truck but im not a ford man :coolugh: Damn people...Interesting feeling you get after such an occurance.

Anyhow... I cant get these subs to sound bad. Incredibly efficient for a sealed enclosure. "Loud enough" is maybe half of what they're capable of. The perfect compliment for a set of boston acoustics pro60s in kick panels. The speakers have an orion 4002 amplifier and the subs are getting fed cheap power from a generation XI hifonics amp. Sounds good for what it is. I need to devise better mounting. The sinch strap just isnt cutting it.

Much glad the weeks i spent researching geared me toward soundsplinter. It was a tossup between these and ascendent audio(which i recently hear have encountered growth problems...Shutting down their forums and such.)

These subs in a sealed enclosure gives any type of music a clean detailed response. I listen to a bit of everything. The Matishyahu albums sound very clean. No complaints there. Obie trice cheers is a bit much for the ears, but is very deep, distinct notes that will leave you deaf in about ten minutes. No signs of struggle or stress from the subs. The dumb and dumber opening theme song is marvelous. I cannot get these things to fart out any note. Rather musical i'd say. Sounding like a broken record, but clean, clear, deep, detailed sounds coming from these. I can tell they're already "getting good". Its hard not to turn up the volume. Is break-in time reccomended?

I feel like an A-hole for whining about the minor dents in the cone. This is the best $500 i've ever spent though. Hopefully SS will stay true to itself, offering kickass support for time to come. Just how big is soundsplinter, how many units get moved in a month? Is responding to customer queries a full time job for mike? I wish to know more about this terrific company. One more happy customer here. :lickscreen:

lol..glad to hear your happy!

SS has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year and a half or so, and mike has yet to change. from getting lucky enough to stumble upon a link to his site to having his own forum and following, he's always been about making sure his product has the absolute best service and performance. he has yet to dissapoint. i'm sure his life gets hectic, but he has established a bar and continuely strives to raise it. mike is indeed the man!

again, welcome to the SS and SSA family!!

I have decided to sell my RE XXX 15" and go with a pair of RL-p 15's as well. I will be installing them sealed with about 2.2ft^3 each and running them on a US Amps Merlin MD2 giving them about 900w each :woot: It's gonna be in about a month.

nice box! how much airspace is each sub seeing? they look so much bigger than my RLp 15 for some reason.

glad you're loving the subs. :D

Driving around for three hours just to get some listen time. Trying to break them in. After that i might not turn them up as much. My ears are sore. Not so much from the subs but the highs. Boston pro's are very bright. Especially playing the ACDC - Live Collector's Edition, which the subs have no trouble playing. Somewhat monotone beats on the album but they play them very well. Driving from dust till dark forced me to turn the headlights on. The stock alternator likes this setup way more than a single 15" brahma. Much less light dimming for the sound output. After listening at moderate to high volume levels, the coils were slightly warm. The cones were a little bit warm to the touch. Nowhere near damage however.

The Spooks volume 1 album sounds far too good. Having high quality speakers really shows you some music is mixed really bad, and some is mixed really well. The spooks tracks have weak basstrack it seems, but at high volumes its incredibly detailed. If you can stand Ming Xai's voice...Tracks 3, 7, 9 and 11 are good, the rest is crap...

Two of these subs in a sealed enclosure will play any track from any genere of music. After a few days of listening these subs have gone beyond my expectations. Somewhat blown away by the performance, actually. It almost sounds distorted because they'll play the sharpest note, and return to neutral state leaving the interior shaking.

Maybe someone somewhere will read this thread and decide to buy some subs :fing34:

Is polyfil reccomended? I didnt bother with any, not sure if they need it i was just curious. Oh, the subs have 2.235ft^3 each. I was going to add some bracing but didnt, so there is a little more airspace on each side. .1 is not enough to make much difference though

polyfill isnt needed but it wont hurt them.

Its cheap so if you buy some its not like you spent a whole lot of money

Glad you're happy with the subs and stay safe on the roads so you can enjoy them in the future!

I'd try to throw some bracing in there if at all possible. Put a brace in the center of the enclosure between the drivers to help eliminate any flexing on the front baffle. Run this brace from the front to rear baffle and try to tie it to the top and bottom of the enclosure as well.

Experiment with the amount of polyfill. The poly will smooth out the mid bass a bit and extend the frequency response a bit. Some people like this while others dont so thats why I always say to experiment. Start at 0 poly and you can work up to about 1lb of poly per cu ft of enclosure space.
