should i go active or bigger 4channel?

Recommended Posts

ok so im looking at getting a bigger 4channel for my my cdt comps and my 6x9's and my question was how much do you guys think i should put on the cdt's??? I have the cdt ef-61fg's by the way so if anyone could help me out on this it would be great cause i only have a small older alpine 40x4 on everything right now and i know my cdt comps can get alot louder and more clean.O and another thing is that i wanna have ALL speakers amped in my car cause i dont wanna bridge the amp or run a 2channel to the fronts and run the 6x9's on HU power so thats why im lookin for the bigger 4channel.

OK NOW I HAVE AN OPTION #2

ok so instead of going with bigger 4channel do you guys think i should use my alpine 40x4 on my 6x9's and tweets and go active with the midbass and just do it that way???

Let me know which way you guys think would be better and what are the advantages and dis of both.If i did go active what EQ would be a really good starter without for a good price and where could i get one?

is this becuase your sub amp gains are too high? or the mids and highs just cant keep up?

i would say bridge your alpine to run the front stage only and see if its loud enough. the rear fill can be run off the headunit. if its not loud enough i suggest finding something 150 x 2 at least. those components shine when you give them the right power, i dont think they should have a problem keeping up.

You bought the wrong headunit if you want to go active...just get a bigger amp, you could find an amp with an active crossover but adjustments in the trunk are real annoying. If you need funds to do it, sell the 6x9's and the 40x4 amp and get something with real juice to those fronts and IMO it will sound much better.

When I got CDT EF-61's I was told to give them alot of space and around 100wrms.

Just an FYI, I was recommended that to keep up with dual ported 12" RE's, with a little headroom.

well about the sub settings being too high well its not that cause i turned them off and faded all the way to the fronts and they sounded really shallow and really werent loud at all.And i hate having to turn my HU up pretty high to get my fronts to at least get alittle loud.

Doors deadened any?

I would bridge the amp to the fronts, and run the rears with deck power.

What's better, no rears and fronts that get loud enough or the fronts are too quiet? It is an easy switch to give it a try.

but if i did that would i even be able to hear the rears at all with that little of power going to them??

Shouldn't be hearing them up front anyways.

just run the rears off the HU and bridge the amp and see how it sounds. The EFs can handle aout 150rms of clean power and up to 175rms. They will have some improvements with deadened doors.

well i probably would but im kinda on a tight budget since i bought the subs last week and that $225 price tag for that amp looked pretty good even though its a refurb.

I'd talk to Flakko. There are two types of refurbs.

1) All new amp in an old case--luckily the case and heatsink are pretty much the most expensive part of the amplifier so when they die they might get swapped out

And the second type is what manufacturers refurb and let go to chit box internet sites

2) Part of the power supply died, one FET. Normally these are all matched, but when they refurb they won't be. This will cause the "weakest link" to fail considerably faster than if it were a new matched set.

My guess from all the hate on Ike is that they get the chit refurbs and I wouldn't want one at all.

You have been on a budget the whole time with your install and tend to ignore advice though so buy what you will. If it were me I'd spend the little extra money on the US. To draw an analogy, the most expensive amps I have are the ones that I don't use and those were cheaper to begin with. Think of this a little more long term than today and the XT will seem much cheaper.
