Hey guys need some opinions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals. New to the forum. I have posted on a few others and not gotten much advice. I tried the search feature on this topic but need more help due to the Oz sub I will be asking about not being in any threads.

I am putting together a new system for a 06 wrx sti. I want good sq but also the ability to get loud. Not anything crazy but loud. I will ask about the woofers as this is the woofer forum.

I planned to do a single 15. It is between the tc2000 and Oz audio matrix elite and rlp 15. First off what are your opinions on these three woofers? I cannot find much on the Oz on the forums. The specs are very similar on the three. The rlp has the best price to feature ratio, The oz is proven and the tc is the new kid on the block that everyone loves. Whatever combo or single woofer I choose will have 1200 watts at 1 ohm to play with. Sealed box.

Thank you for the opinions guys

I think the Rlp is proven as well.

the rl-p is indeed proven, and a reliable, sturdy, peformer in a sealed enviroment.

also, the tc2k will be a similiar performer as it's a little brother of the rl-p (the tc3k being just about the same,IIRC)

i know little about the OZ, but if their componets are any indication, it will indeed be a good choice.

with the toss in of the rl-p being the better bang for the buck player, i'd say it's a winner here. and don't forget mike, who backs SS unlike anyone i've ever seen. (not that kyle does abad job at tc, lol....)

another noteworthy player is the si mag...and nick is a helluva guy as well.....but again, it's pricepoint is a little more then the rl-p, but very compareable performance...

The TC3K is a 3hp, better than RL-p. The TC 2K is basically the same sub.

Mike> Kyle for CS.

tc2000 uses the tc9 motor just as the rl-p. there are only small diffrences between the tc2000 and the rl-p.

and by small differences they mean completely different soft parts which have absolutely no effects on output or sound quality... ;)

Same motor platform, different specs. Most of the differences will be in space requirements and powerhandleing.

Thanks alot guys. I like the rlp. I also like the Oz. I think it was between those two in my head the whole time. I wanted to see what the verdict was on the tc. They are all great subs.

so guys what is the verdict. tc2k or rlp???? The rlp seems like the better buy if performance and realibility is evenly matched!

You won't complain about either performance wise, and being Mike is so great to work with I'd lean towards the Rlp for that reason alone.

Very nice! I would love to get ahold of a mint early ninties m3.

Thats the thing. the budget is worked out to accomidate any of the three mentioned subs. The cheapest being the rpl at 300 with shipping the tc and oz being at about 350 with shipping.

I love the black of the rpl. Like the design of the tc. Love the oz name. I just cannot decide!!! If I go with the rpl I will have a little extra cash to toss into some back lighting or something.

Can all the people who gave me some help post a vote? I need a tie breaker it is a dead heat lol.

Thanks.

It's 100% up to your personal preferance.

The TC-2000 has a basket which accomedates a better suspension for more throw. It's basket is also sexier.

If you are going sealed or are planning on inverting it I would go with the TC-2000.

The Rl-P seems to work well in smaller (considering its competitions) ported enclosures quite well. In ported enclosures linear travle is not of as much importance. The cone is also quite sexy.

If you plan on porting and are limited on space or are mounting it cone out I would go with the Rl-p.

I'll bet you wont be dissatisfied with either choice. :)

Well the setup will be going into the back of a 2006 wrx sti. I think I will go sealed as I want the setup to be as small as possible. I want it to be loud but do not need it ultra loud. I am more into sound q with a deep punch.

I like that rlp. Is it alot less impressive in a sealed box than the tc? Or is it a small difference?

Sorry for all the questions I have no way to listen to either woofer.

Thank again for the help I appreciate it

ok..tc2k=rl-p..i gotta remember that..lol...

as to which to get? the rl-p and tc2k will be a coinflip..as mentioned...all but the same sub. and the rl-p is cheaper and backed by one awesome dude. (who in turn is backed by tc themselves..lol)

has to what the rl-p performs best in..well, i'm here to tell you it'll perform in just about whatever you put it in, sealed or ported. i've ran my 12" rl-p in as little as 1ft^3 sealed and as big as 2.5ft^3 ported. it's impressive in all of those. period. i don't care what people say it graphs like, or what their program says it'll perform best in. i know from experience this sub will rock in just about any enclosure. other then the rl-s, it's the absolute best sql woofer i have ever heard/owned and that list includes the vaunted xxx and the si mag (which is indeed an awesome sub in it's own right!!)

IMO, after reading what your after, put the rl-p in 1.25ft^3 sealed, this thing loves that enclosure for a great blend of loud and low, with excellent response. throw about 750wrms at it...she'll sing!!

Suttle differences. If any at all. I havent heard either so i cant really tell you, just looking at the drivers/specifications.

As I said before, the only real "advantage" to the TC-2000 is it's basket. It allows for spacers between spiders and a larger, 10" spiders for more travle keeping the cone under controll.

Since you are sealing it's a matter of save $50 and get a sexy assed cone. Or spend the extra $50 and get a sexy assed basket (IMO) and and a very suttle ammount of extra performance.

Also remember the TC-2000 is offered in dual 3 and single 3 ohm coils. So unless you get a JL slash series or something, you will get slightly more power to the Rl-P on the same amp.

Flip of a coin. Heads Rl-P, Tails TC-2000 and what ever lands, take it.

Inverted drivers are sexy though. ;)

If it where me I would get the TC-2000

The group buy with the US Amps and SS puts it over the top for sure in my book.
