ID MAXX vs. RE AUDIO SX

Recommended Posts

Here is my is where i am at. I am going to get 2 JL 500/1. I am looking at 2 ebay auctions. I don't know if ii should get the 12in Image dynamics dual 4ohm or a RE audio 12in SX dual 2 ohm? I am looking for big base but still keep a good amount of SQ. Also i don't know which would be better for me 2 or 4 ohm. I have read lots of good things about RE audio on this forum ,but Image dynamics doesn't seem like a bad choice. I am going to build a sealed box if that makes a difference.

dual 2's will work

dual 4's will work

Id get the ID, RE SX's arent known for their SQ

i don't to sound like a dumbass ,but what would be the difference between 2 and 4. Sound wise and what is really the difference.

Some say that dual 4 is SQ and dual 2 is SPL

Which makes no sense since there is no difference in sound

When they advertise an amp and say 500 at 2ohms and 200 at 4ohms. Does that have to do with the subs you hook up to it. So if i went with 2 i would get more power and if i went with 4 i would use less power but get a better sound.

The JL slash series amps will do the same power at 1 or 4ohms

So it wont make a difference

The only way the impedance will make a difference in the same drivers, is how it affects the other parameters. I'll agree with Elias though, it will be negligeble if anything at all. I'd suggest you go with the SX. It's better suited for street beating where the best sound is not a main concern, and that doesn't seem to be your priority. If you get a deal on the ID MAX, then by all means get that, but of the two that I have heard, they seem to be a bit dry, maybe a little too precise if you can even have that. That's the best I can describe it. They can/will get loud, but are more of a precision driver.

Good point

RE does make great street beater woofers.

Ryan is right, probably for what you want the SX might be the way to go.

I prefer the IDMAX personally.

SX's do not take well to being sealed.

Nope and I learned that personally. Then I tossed it into a 3.5 @ 35hz box I built and wala it sounded great and it was loud. I agree its an amazing street beater but I got rid of it and have a mag in the mail as I type.

I havent heard an IDMAX so I cant really compare but thought Id share my SX experience.

BTW install is the most important thing afterall isnt it?

damn I havent posted in a while

yes, and the new mags are also $150 more expensive than the SX's used to be...but now RE thinks you should pay $550 at the dealer and $650 or w/e MSRP.
