Polishing the aluminum cone

Recommended Posts

Just out of sheer curiousity, has anyone ever polished their RL-p's cone to a mirror finish? It seems like a pain in the butt, but would look rather interesting when completed. But I don't know if I'll like the look of a bigass concave mirror sitting in my trunk... :P

I've been toying with the idea for quite some time now, just never had the balls to do it. They don't make the plain logo-less RL-p anymore, and I don't want to fubar mine up. :(

You can remove the logo with acetone. Doesnt discolour the cone at all and you will have a ghost "S"

Is there anything that I can use to remove the paint without damaging the aluminum?

Its anodized, i dont think it comes off.

You can get a recone from TC Sounds, they are polished aluminum.

But IMO, not worth it for just a cone colour

Oven cleaner will take off anodized layer, but I am sure it will reek havoc on other parts. If you had the cone out alone it would work though. I stripped a chitty brown chassis for an RC car that way, then just hit it with some tripoli and a buffer and she was polished.
