Jeep Cherokee big3

Recommended Posts

Alright, today i went out to my Jeep Cherokee to upgrade my big3. The battery ground was simple, then i was about to do the battery to alt. Problem, there are 2 wires going out of the alt. and both go into the same loom(i think thats what they are called). Then I just start to look for the chasis ground point and i can not find it at all. So I am stuck, I am about to just say screw it.

I know there are 1 or 2 guys on here who have a Jeep Cherokee, if they could help me out here, or if anyone has done work on Jeep Cherokee's to help me out. Thanks.

There may or may not be an external alternator ground, it could ground internally through the frame.

Can you see where those two wires bolt to? Should be a common positive point...

Well, both wires go into the same plastic cover, so i can't tell without taking them out.... and i dont know if i want to do that.

don't worry about the factory alternator wiring...

run a seperate wire from your alt to your battery....leave the factory alone. remember, your not replacing, your adding.

as far as the chassis ground goes, if you can't find one, make one. it's easy enough to do. use the alternator bracket and if nothing else, run that wire to the same spot where the battery is grounded to the frame.

simple fix bro.

I'm not replacing any of the wires, I am adding. But the thing is, the alt has 2 wires coming out of it and i dont know what each wire is for.

i'm sure one goes to the computer and the other to a fuse box. or one to an inside fuse box and the other to an under hood fuse box. those would be my guesses...

in any case, it's not much of an issue since your not replacing....

have you googled it? maybe call autozone or something...get a chilton's manual...

Ya your best bet is to just add your wires, an fuse seperatly. Fuse according to the size of the wire you are using.

P.s, Holla SSA, you will be seeing alot of me
