RL-i 8s box help

Recommended Posts

Ok I now have 2 SS 8s and i need to build a nice box for them. I know how big I want to build it 41 x 10 x 12. This will give me 2cu ft of air before port. i would like to port it to around 29-31hz with 2 3" ports. Here is what I need help with how long do they need to be? I dont know how to figure out how much air the ports will take up in the box. Not sure if it matters. :puzzled:

Thanks for any help with this.

Port volume = pi*r^2*h

Figure out the length by using any port calculator out there.

www.the12volt.com has one

I would aim for 0.5-0.65 of volume each after displacements.

So when I tell it 1.5cu ft and it gives me a size port to use do I have to build the box bigger to make up for the port or not? I just want to make sure.

Thanks again for the help.

That calculator assumes that volume you entered is the box volume after displacements.

So in other words, that volume you entered + the port displacement + bracing displacement + driver displacement = total volume.

you like it front firing?

I was thinking about facing the subs up and the ports to the back. I want to port it low, I want the best sq I can get out of them. Right now I have my RL-p 12 pointing to the back with the port. That 12 sounds real good just want to take up less room.

It is going in a Scion tC.
