saw blades

Recommended Posts

looking to buy a saw blade for my circular saw to cut my MDF. i was going to have lowes cut it, but i can't quit worrying that they will mess it up so im going to do it myself. i have been told to get at least a 40 tooth carbide tip blade....i am only going to use this thing once so i dont want to put a lot of money into it. i was thinking getting a higher tooth count blade, just not carbide tipped. i was thinking like a 120/150 tooth blade....would that work well? is the carbide tipped that big of a deal?

MDF glue will rip up a non-carbide one fast, but if you are only using it for one enclosure it should be okay. At HD I got a carbide one for mine for like $9 though.

Carbide tipped tend to leave gouges in the wood if you pull it from the side since the actual teeth are thicker than the actual blade

Yeah, I usually buy the cheap $3 ones from Menards for every enclosure I do. It's nice to have a new blade for every box and they're cheap enough to justify it. They do NOT last though, so if you want to go cheap, that is the way to do it.

Carbide is a must... The only thing non carbide blades are good for is putting backwards and cutting sheets of Tin.

you dont need lots of teeth...40 tooth is plenty...you just want to stay aay from ripping blades :)

you will need a new blade soon if you do much cutting on MDF...get the 40 too th carbide next time :)

this box should be the only time i use it, but next time around i will probably go with a carbide. i figured that you would need more than 40 teeth..
