weird amp problem pls help......

Recommended Posts

i finally got my subs hook up and my monoblock going....so i know most of you have your gains set at a quarter and so thats what i did at FIRST. The dmm gain settings way wasnt working for some reason it kept reading the same numbers with the music going and the music off. Anyways i left the gains at a quarter for now and listened to it and i couldnt even feel the subs at high volume so i turned it up to half just to see the difference and then right as you get to half this HUGE rumbling comes from my subs and its constant even if the music is on pause...and this did happen but not as loud when i had my other amp at 4ohms.can someone pls help me with this??

here was a couple of things i was thinking...

1.preouts on pioneer HU

2.maybe bad ground

3.maybe need loop isolator???

1/4, 1/2, whatever that isn't right. Set your gains with a DMM and a test tone cd. You can also do it by ear, but since that's what you basically did above my recommendation is to use a DMM.

Hard to be of any other help, since you never told us if the noise went away when you turned down your gains...

i tried to set it with the dmm and the 50hz tone cd i burned but something was going wrong...when i put the leads in the + and - the readings were the same when the music was playing and when it wasnt.....that was my first time to ever use one so maybe i wasnt doing it right but i was pretty sure i was.The noise isnt there until the gain goes right about half then thats when i get the low constant rumble in the subs and i really high pitch kinda crackling sound in my mids and highs......hope that helps some.

Usually flat lines indicate DC voltage settings, squiggly lines indicate the AC side. Set it to whatever decimal range you need, or if it's autoranging just connect it.

Getting noise in your front stage worries me, though...especially when it doesn't have anything to do with the amp being worked on. Sounds like you may have inducted noise issues to troubleshoot.

when i turn the gains on the sub amp down alot the noise goes away from the mids and highs so im still kinda thinkin maybe its my HU but im not sure.I just hate having the gains down that low cause i dont get any bass like that......well i do but you cant even feel it its so low......i took my head unit out to check...is there anything i can check with the rca's on the HU to find out anything???

they are dual 4...so what do you think???

so your saying that you have 4 pos and 4 neg on the woofers i don't think you have them wired right becuse you have one pos one neg that are not connected

i say try hooking ur amp to the other set of pre outs on ur HU and see if it goes away.

My buddys HU did the same thing, wt the whole rumbling noise.

I'd say chech the HU.

ok try wiring them in paralle so that you are using all of your + - on your woofers

how u have ur subs wired isnt going to make them have a rumbling sound...

It will only make ur amp get hot and cut off from low impedence or it will work just fine but not be loud because of a higher impedence.

Its the HU

Just switch them to the front or rear pre outs and see if it still does it.

Basiclly for 1 ohm...hook all the negatives together and all teh positives together..

does ur amp have 2 inputs? or just one

like + - + -

or just one?

in that case just hook them up seperate.

it would be easier and less confusing, lol

Still + to + and - to -

and run each to both channels on the amp..

so it would basicy be sending 4ohms into the amp and the amp bridging them for you, equaling 1 ohm...

But that still isnt gonna solve the rumbling problem..

at least i dont think soo.
