Electrical opinions and amp suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Ok so im anticipating the arrival of my SP4 18" and i figured i get everything sorted out for when it arrives...

My car is currently running the big 3 with 0gauge wire,  2 1000ca batteries, and factory 120amp alt. The amp im using is a hifonics zeus 3216 (3200@1ohm) and will be temporary until i can get a better amp. Will my electrical be good enough? Do i need to upgrade alt for 3k watts? Or can i just upgrade to 2 xs d3100s?

Also what amps would u suggest that could give the sp4 the power it needs to do its job?  Ive looked into the crescendo 3.5, dc audio 3.5,and soundqubed 4.5, any other suggestions and recommendations? ?

My first point of attack would be a more powerful alternator. Of course, that also depends on how you listen. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are looking to get the most output out of the sp4 that you can. Hifonics is a good bang for the buck amp, I'd make sure your voltage is rock solid before spending money on a new amp.

Appreciate the info! Going to look into h.o alternators for my car, because although it wont be crankin 24/7 ,i do tend to abuse my setups lol how loud it is ,is going to be the determining factor of how i listen, mainly because it may be too loud to listen too for extended periods of time lmao

The alternator "makes" the power, not the batteries.

If you can find a serious HO alt for your car...get it ! You already have batteries, keep them until you have more money or until they die.

I'd love to run a HO alt for my car, but I have a regulated system, I don't know if I can run a Mechman or a Singer HO alt easily.

You can easily run an ho alt! The ecu will regulate the voltage down but the amperage of the alt will allow you to maintain your voltage. Also most companys will build you an externally regulated alt but you will show a charge lite on your dash. This way you can hold 14.5 if you dont care about a light on.

What kind of car?

I'm curious....seems like a lot of sub to fit in a car. I barely got a 15" in the trunk of my grand prix...ported
