HU not powering up

Recommended Posts

Well, i dont have a problem but my dad and brother do. They are trying to hook up a new HU and it wont power up i guess. He said that after it not working when wired through the wiring harness, he hooked it up to a battery to see. Still wont power on, but he only hooked up like 3 wires... 12volt accessory, 12volt battery, and illumination. He only had those 3 wires hooked up so he could just test the radio. Do you need to connect all of them to get the radio to go on??

Should have been a ground in there somewhere...

How's the fuse?

If it is good, and the radio does not turn on when the +12V, accessory are hooked to the battery, and the ground to ground, then its hooped.

well, the fuse on the car blew but the HU didnt go on when hooked directly to a battery. It is a pioneer unit if that helps any. If i remember correctly, like an my alpine, you had to switch 2 wires or something to get it to work. Is there some trick on Pioneer's?? I'm about to go out there and hook it up myself cause my dad is a flippen retard about this stuff.

I think i have figured out the problem. The HU is a Pioneer avic-n2, the flip screen navigation unit and they hideaway(brain) unit has to be hooked up to the HU. Hopefully it works.....

Just a FYI, most [older] cars dont have an illumination so the majority of the time it's not used [when dealing with one of those]

Fixed, I think?

It's been a long time, Eldo, since I have put a HU in a vehicle that didn't use the illumination connection. Well, that didn't have it as an option since it does not have to be connected for the HU to work. Now, I don't install for a living so I don't see near so many vehicles as someone that does...but certainly I was under the impression that it was the norm nowadays rather than the exception to the rule.
