2010 VW GTI

Recommended Posts

It's time to start a build log on here for my 2010 VW GTI. I sold my CR-X last August and bought this a couple days later.

First thing I did was swap out all the interior lights and license plate lights with LEDs from deAutoKey.com Everything is hyper white, but the foot wells are red.

Next up is the Deck. JVC KD-A95bt. Pretty darn happy with it. Here is a little review I wrote up over on caraudio-forum.com.

I don't think it's a fair judgement, yet. This is with the stock speakers and no amp...

I used the USB to listen to music through my iphone today on my way to work and back. As far as from the stock deck to this, it's a MAJOR upgrade, but I still have  along ways to go to be happy obviously.

As for navigation through the menus and such it's a breeze. Able to use the deck to switch songs on pandora and such is a plus for me. The 4 buttons around the volume knob are almost "flimsy". The way they are sitting makes them look like they're floating, but it makes me question how much daily abuse they can take. Changing songs through the deck while hooked up to the USB is quick to play the music, but the screen is slow to get the new song displayed. I haven't tested this with bluetooth or CDs yet, so we will see if that is just with USB or not.

Aesthetically I absolutely love the looks. There are a ton of color options (21 for each section, with another 3 different options that cycle through the colors), though there is no ultra white option :( There is a very faint pink, yellow, blue, and green. this isn't a big deal, as they really are very light tints, though I would have liked to see a "solid" white. The face is very clean with only necessary buttons. Nothing too flashy just for show-very happy with that. I really appreciate the large volume knob, and the solid "clicks" as you turn in- that is a must for me.

I haven't messed with any tuning at all so I'll have to comment on the filters, TA, and EQ at a later date. I hope this doesn't sound like a huge rant on the deck, I'm just voicing what I've played with so far. With minimal play time I'm happy with it. It's very easy to learn your way around the buttons and menu system. I believe there is an app to download to better incorporate my phone, i'll have to look into that and keep you guys updated.

Subwoofer time! I bought this last christmas (shows how late I am to posting this build...) and I'm so happy with this sub. When I get it in a proper enclosure and give it some power it's going to really shine!

Box building.

I live in an apartment in Seattle, so I have no room to build anything here, let alone plug in a power tool outside of my living room. The only time I can really build anything is when I take the 2 hour drive and a ferry ride over to my parent's house. This box was supposed to be tuned to 35 hz, with 3.5-4 ft^3 of airspace after displacement. I was rushed to get this built on a sunday afternoon/evening and I ran out of light. In the rush I made a few cuts off and my port was slimmed down a bit, so everything is off of my original plans. Not too happy with this box.

In the car for the ride back to Seattle. At least it fits...

Got some cheap material from JoAnne fabrics and wrapped this bitch up!

I bought some 6 gauge welding wire for a low power build I did, and had a ton left over, so why not use that for speaker wire?

If course it's too large for the terminals, so I had to trim some. More than I expected.
