Running active simply removes passive crossovers from the equation. You manipulate the signal before it gets amplified. Time alignment and other adjustments together will set the stage for driver or passenger. Going active just opens up the available adjustability. Of course, this is my understanding of it, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm working on my first active setup myself right now.

No. To answer your question. You CAN setup it up in any configuration, endless possibilities and that is what makes it a big project to tackle.

yeah, endless possibilities. It also depends A LOT of speaker selection, and placement. For example, usually the smaller the speaker, the more on axis it has to be. So in this example, if this requires your passenger tweeter to face directly at you, then obviously the passenger will suffer the listening experience. In my vehicle, I use horns. In it's current configuration, I can turn my head left and right and hear no difference in image. This is because horns disperse a very wide sound for the lack of better term.

For people like me, I care a lot. Because I travel often, and would like the make the passengers listening experience as good as mine. When you're in the movie theater, the movies doesn't care just for once section of the seating, they have an entire audience. So you can look at it like that.

As to the original question...No, running active really has nothing to do with whether the car is tuned for one seat or two. It's possible to tune the system in either manor (one front seat or both) with either an active or passive setup.

Honestly- i only went active in my zuk to bypass the passive x-over.  I have had a few fail on me, from overpowering I am sure, but they failed none the less.

No you don't, otherwise your driver selection and everything would be way different. As with everything passenger/driver is completely install dependent. Your choices state completely otherwise as you are more than willing to compromise.

As for the question at hand, the install makes the difference. For me a two seat setup is ridiculous. I always maximize for myself. When listening to music critically I am almost always alone. Side cause of course is also that everyone I've ever put in my passenger seat is in awe at how good it sounds. I just smile though when I realize how much better it is in the drivers seat.

That makes the most sense to me.  I mean, who the hell am I spending all this money, putting in all this time, blood and sweat for anyway?  Myself or the passengers riding with me who don't spend nearly as much time in it as I do?  Me of course and because of that I maximize the potential of the system to MY listening position which is the driver's seat.  Now, when I want to really show it off to someone I let them have the honor of sitting in that seat while demoing the vehicle to them but as Sean stated they typically tell me how great it is from elsewhere and I just laugh inside thinking the exact same thing.  Hell, even if traveling a lot I'm still the one driving and I would want it to sound the best to me the whole time I'm behind the wheel.

^^^ you both raise a very good and honest point... BUT there isn't an end all reasoning for doing what you do... Some just want clarity over output, some just want loud AND clear... They aren't the same thing and you can't judge them and tell them what is right... If they want your opinion then that is all it will ever be...
