System overhaul

Recommended Posts

well i am redoing my whole system (not that i had much, maybe doing a whole system).

So i have a 15" (the one with no logo) in a sealed box. I think it is around the size of 2.5-3 ft^3 and i have a Viper 1200d amp (1200w x1 @1 ohm)

Now the question is, what else should i get to complete the system? I am thinking an Alpine HU but i am clueless from there. I don't want to break the bank but i want it to sound good and keep up with my SI. This will be going in either a late 90's prelude or 2 door accord (should be getting in the next couple weeks).

so would you suggest a diff head? Comp for front? coax for back?

oh and i listen to mostly rock, alt, punk, and elctronica and i have all my music on my ipod so i need a hu that is somehow ipod compatible.

I have a deh-880prs on the way. It is only about $325 shipped depending on where you get it from. If you are looking for a really nice sounding HU that doesn't cost a lot, it may be a good one to look into.

I was thinking more along the lines of Alpine CDA-9853

Do you like Glide Touch or not?

Because that's going to make or break that head unit for you...

I'm an Alpine guy, and I agree...

Part of why I went with the 9835 instead of a newer model.

Werd.

Glide touch is the suck.

I know a friend selling a mint 9835 :)

My bro has one too, and I love the features on that thing.

oh, and make sure you get good components up front. no speakers are really necessary for the rear. maybe an eq or something. i like audiocontrol.

So i know that MB Quarts are good, but what is something that is more reasonable...

If you like the sound of Quarts, anything with metal dome tweets should give you that same sound.

Personally, I can't stand them without heavy EQing.

You say that you dont want to spend a ton...So what is your range for head unit, speakers, and small amp?

I think i am going to get the Pioneer Premier P880PRS

so i really don't want to spend much more than $200 on speakers and anything else.

My opinion...

Keep the stock rear speakers and either run them off the deck or dont run any.

Front, I would go with componets if you can. Look into the low line of CDT, DLS, polk, there are many others...I hate to say it but the alpine type R set is decent and worth the ebay price.

That should also leave you with enough for a decent profile amp to power them, they put out rated power with low distortion levels. IMO one of the best "bang for the buck" amps.
