hi, im new to this site. it looks like there are some pretty smart people on here. i am looking for some unbiased advice. so here's my question, i have decided to go with one 12", but i can't decide which sub to go with, the Assassin 12 or the 13Kv.2. any suggestions? i can still get the Assassin for $75 while it is on sale or i can get the 13Kv.2 for $95 by going thru ICIX, there is a deal going on there. i plan on keeping the box sealed for now, about 1 ft^3. i have 400 watts to give it. is the Assassin single voice coil or dual voice coil?? wanting some kick you in the nuts low end (for the amount of power i have), i want it to hit every note in a metallica song and i want it to thump to some three 6. i dont want it too loud, it hurts my ears if its too loud, but i dont want it quiet either. i guess you could say i want about 40% SQ and 60% LSQ, or around there. which sub is going to do the job??

The assassin is single 4

Even though i dont like eD is get the Kv.2 just because of the VC options

i see that the eD sub has an advantage on surface area by 64 cm^2 but the AA has a little bit larger xmax.....will that even out, or is that giving the edge to the Kv.2?

may i ask why you do not like eD? i do like the VC options, gives me a bit more room to expand to a different amp in the future.

well i wont be ordering whatever sub i get for a week or two so if it happens to come to mind please let me know. i am pretty picky and can never decide when it comes to this stuff. i am on a tight budget and i can't afford to spend money on a piece of junk and then have to replace it with something better. i want to get the most for my money. anybody else.....ideas for subs under $100??

:WELCOME: paulie,

I am slightly biased, over the past few years I have seen and read about the very questionable business practices by eD. More than enough for me to never buy their product. I would have mentioned the RE RE sub here normally, but their prices just jumped way about the realm of reality. As for Acendant, there have been mixed reviews on many of their products. Yes their prices are great, but there has been numerous cases of customer service issues reported in such a short time of being in business. Much like what happened here with Ology Audio, over on SIN, AA had a forum but due to some sub par business ways they were pulled from the website.

I would consider looking for a used sub, in many cases people buy a decent sub but end up selling a car or buying a different amp and they suddenly have a sub that is still semi new in great shape. I will keep my eye out for a good sub in your price range.

Don't put all your faith in that. Too many people worry about POTENTIAL displacement, but in reality, they never use the driver to it's full displacement capability. AND, just becuase it may displace more air does NOT mean it WILL INDEED be louder. There are simply too many variables.

i saw on car stereo that there are two power bass B1054v.2 black 10's for $95. really wanted a 12" but if that is a hell of a deal then i can go with 2 10's. i also saw on ICIX that there is a 12o.14 flat cone for sale for $100. what about either of those?

What about the ID overstock on Ebay 100 shipped

http://cgi.ebay.com/Image-Dynamics-OEM-12-...1QQcmdZViewItem

They still have 18 left. They are DVC 4ohms and 5OOwrms. Dont think thats a bad deal. go check them out.  You will have to copy and paste the link.

I have one. They are indeed a $100 driver and nothing more. I liked mine at first, but that was only with a couple hours of play time. Now with a month+ time with it, I really wish I would've spent my money more-wisely.

can't be having that around here. i really like the look of that flatcone but it is SVC 4 ohm and i am not sure what differences the flatcone makes....

The flatcone looks exquisite. Many have been very happy with their performance. I had a pair of the old flatcone 10Os when they first came out, but never got the chance to use them. My only problem with them is if something happens to the driver, you cannot get it re-coned into a flatcone again.

for $75 the Assasin is a steal.

Assasin outclasses the RE RE on almost every perspective. But, as mentioned, they are single 4ohm.

Ascendant has great customer service. Just because chad doesnt have time to look at his forum on sin or doesnt want to doesnt mean he isnt one of the most helpful guys over the phone or by e-mail.

If you are willing to venture into the 100+ range only other loud option i could offer is the 187. :)

or look for used eclipse's. the 10's and 12's with the TC9 go for around 130 on ebay all the time.

loooks like a good deal. i am so confused now on what i want to get. i have so many ideas being thrown around. how are they going to compare to the assassin, the flat cone, or the 13kv.2? what about their sound quality?? does crystal have a web site? what about the specs?

EDIT: white-crystal comp 12 / green-13kv.2 / blue-assassin

winisdss2.jpg

entered some wrong figures the first time, the SPL graph is not right, the crystal is pretty much right along with the 13kv.2 on the SPL graph.....looks like the SQ on the crystal is pretty good. that is just in a 1ft^3 box, dont know any enclosure recommendations. how much can i rely on WinISD??

Do NOT base your decision on graphs from a computer program also. They are never 100% accurate and are marginally close at best. That is unless you're talking about LEAP or a similar product.

i think i have decided on getting that crystal comp. done a lot of research on it and it seems like a great SQ/LSQ driver and it can handle a lot more power which leaves room for expansion later on. sub is in absolutely perfect condition and its a hell of a deal. i will be back later on and find out some enclosure specs for this sub.

:Doh::(:poop::dammit:

that's what i have to say

that guy put the crystal comp up on ebay and it sold within like 5 hours. didnt even have time to get to it

so.......the only way i am getting it is if the dude that bought it backs out......:dammit:

so............looks like i am again on the search for a sub. now, its back to either an assassin 12, a 13kv.2, the flatcone, or any other subs that are good used ones for sale that i happen to find

EDIT: found an Orion P12D2 12" on sale on ebay. $90 + shipping, how are these? also found a diamond D3 12" for $77 + shipping.
