With a louder exhaust or top down I bet I won't feel any problems even if it was a crappy DAC

Moving forward...

I finished up the amp rack a while ago but did not have time to post it:

250 grams, it's light :D

I started the A-pillars on Saturday, these went easy so far:

They will be wrapped in Alcantara once I buy some, so until then, a bit of black paint and it's all good:

Thanks guys.

As it turns out, I can't use what midbass I have, since the left midbass is locked up. So I'll run Extremis in non-deadened doors, it's going to be noisy...And the HU outputs are sub-only, so I will use an Ipod for source until I install the tablet.

But I did manage to stitch weld the door opening, minus the lower section since the sills will be removed for rust repairs. Curious to see if it added some rigidity.

I got smart on this side and only cut the cardboard backing, leaving the vinyl to sit between the speaker and the mdf ring.

BecauseRaceCar, stitch welding the door opening seam :D

It desperately needs the tablet installed and a miniDSP. Hopefully I can balance a miniDSP and tires in May

HEH, it would be fun to get together with Aaron and do some AutoX biggrin.png

The Miata will get even more stitch welding and bracing before paint :D

Finally found the time to fix the broken clip on one A-pillar. This is how it should have looked:

My fix

The screw head got some dremel treatment, filler and sanding, can't even tell I worked there.

And I aligned the headlight covers

Cleaning it up:

IMG_5309.jpg

And I've started getting the tablet in, I won't be needing a very complicated CNC'd panel, which I spent 2 hours yesterday drawing...

A CNC'd panel to go in the rectangular hole is needed but it's not as complicated as tracing the front of the tablet.

IMG_5341.jpg

I've opened up the tablet and the easy part is turning the USB and 3.5mm plugs 90 degrees and attaching them to a plastic panel. The hard part is soldering wires on the power and volume buttons.

Volume buttons will be on the front, power button on the side.

The L-shaped metal is bolted to the case and another metal piece bolts to that to hold the plugs in place.

Wires soldered directly to where the buttons were. Tested and working fine

Hoping I can bolt it in the car this afternoon....

One concern is that I have to root it and install a custom kernel to get help with charging, we'll see. If it's not able to stay charged and with the screen on, I'll just turn off the screen from time to time and keep charging on even when the car is off.

3.1A charger should be good to keep it charged.

And I have Wi-Fi signal in the garage, it's going to be easy to transfer music.

Does it support Android 4.4.2? I think I saw it doesn't...

Don't know why I'm stuck on 4.4.2 though laugh.png

I installed it yesterday, it's not finished. With a anti-reflective screen cover it looks so nice turned off.

i think you can set it up to turn the screen off (and maybe go into some kind of sleep mode) when it isn't charging. My n7 isn't installed yet but it will hold a charge for quite a long time with the screen off. leaving wifi, gps, and/or blutooth will shorten that time a bit.

Yesterday, with the screen, wifi and gps off it charged from 52 to 55% in about a 10 minute drive. I will add a switch to charge it overnight.

Yeah...I've got talent in hacking, when it needs to get done, and fast, it gets hacked. The aluminum mount looks like a piece of shit but considering I put about 5 hours into the entire tablet install, the end result is just fine. I'll take pics when I install the buttons. They are wired but hanging out.

This install was done in fast forward but I'm pretty satisfied.

I need to get the car ready for paint (ie fix rust) in 3 weeks max. So anything to do with the install is put on hold smile.png
