Tymphany LAT 700 Car Install

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, a friend of mine is looking to install his Tymphany Lat 700 in his Chevy Astro. Currently I'm looking at 40x21.5x10 with 2 3" ports. Length of 15" for the ports tuned to 24Hz. Torres says this is correct. It's mainly a show piece, and he wants to get it moving. Can anyone help me out with a box design or recommendations? It's kind of an odd driver(s)

Sub will be used on music not Home Theater

Any help at all? I can answer as many questions as possible, will be run on music, trying to tune box low for flat response but enclosure size limitations may hinder that. I just need some enclosure design help.

I have to say I too have always wanted to play with one just for the sake of playing with it.

That being said, if the manufacturer doesn't have any enclosure recommendations on which to start from then put the T/S into WinISD and model it to see how it will perform in the airspace the space constraints give it.  Once you have that then what you're doing with Torres should be just fine.  It seems plenty accurate from the playing around I've done with it.  Use WinISD to model it and Torres to bring the model to a set of dimensions you can build with.

I'm only being so general about it because this is a driver I highly doubt many have had any experience with.  Even so, it's still just a driver, like any other and the process for designing and building an enclosure for it won't fundamentally be any different from anything else.  From the grade school level understanding I have of T/S parameters it seems like the specifications show it to be a fairly decent driver.

It seems alright. When modeling, it runs great in a 5-12 cu ft box O.o

Right now we're looking running 3.5 cu ft net with (2) 3" Aero ports 15" long, should be interesting.

Its been years since I heard anybody using these. Back on DIYMobile a few guys got them from a clearance spot and I think most said they sounded best in larged sealed or 4th orders. Again this is from memory. Not saying it wont sound good or work, i just dont remember any running ported back then. You many want to do a search there to see what pulls up from the guys that played with them.
