2 XCons en route...woohoo

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I'm still an amateur (not quite a noob) in the car audio game, but I enjoy learning.  It looks like you have a great forum here.

I just ordered 2 12" D1 XCons to go in the trunk of my Pontiac G6.  It feels like Christmas is coming 2 months early!!  Yeehaaa!!bananaDance.gif

From what I have read the SSA subs get nothing but praise, so I can't frikkn wait!

I haven't done a ton of research on this yet, but I'll ask it here anyway. How would you recommend I configure my subs in the trunk?  I have roughly 4ft^3 to play with. This leaves very little space on either side of the box for air to push into the passenger compartment with the back seats folded down.  I also have a 6" aero port I would like to use for the enclosure if suitable.

All opinion would be appreciated, and I look forward to learning much from you guys.

Cheers!!trink40.gif

Jason

Awesome choice on the subs my friend! What are your goals, power available, and actual max dimensions? Also do your seats fold down?

It's obviously a daily driver, so I want it to sound clean & tight, while getting as loud as possible when the mood arises.  My seats do fold down, but I can get a larger box through the trunk opening than from within the car.

Unfortunately I do not know the exact size of box that will fit in through the trunk yet. I'm going to mock up a cardboard template this weekend.  I'm fairly certain a 14" tall x 34" wide x 19" deep box will fit.  This equates to 5.23ft^3 on the outside.   Is the 6" aero port a good choice?

Current power on tap is a BC2000, but that will be replaced by most likely a BC3500 soon. Wiring is sound with big 3 on 1/0.  I will need another battery for trunk and prob a bigger alt as $ & wife allow  lol.  ....and lots of deadner....This thing rattles like crazy now with just 2 type R 12s.

Thanks for your input!

I've done a little measuring, and if I'm lucky I will be able to fit a 35.5x14x20" box in the trunk.  This gives a gross internal volume of 4.55ft^3.  Subtract .17ft^3 for each sub and .28 for 6" x 17" long aero port, it yields 3.93ft^3 of net air space.

Should I be posting all this over in one of the main sections?

Thanks

XCONs sealed will surprise you.

I have considered this, as box volume is a limiting factor in my G6.  Since I already have 1 BC2000, would strapping another for each Xcon be a viable solution?

Since you have D1 subs, strapping is not an option. Just wire to 1 ohm and use the crescendo bc2000 for now. Upgrade to a higher powered 1 ohm stable amp later on if you still want more power.

XCONs sealed are insanely clean. I would follow jay-cee's advice. Run them at 1 ohm and decide if you want more later. The accuracy and output of xcons is staggering. I've heard two 15's sealed at ~1000RMS a piece and was VERY impressed.

Ok.   What kind of power could the Xcons handle in a sealed box?

You have me seriously considering building a sealed box. Construction is soo much easier, plus it WOULD be nice to still have a trunk. Would a BC3500 be enough for the Xcons sealed? Edited by Jasonc13

Box will determie what they can handle, the amp you have will be fine. If you do junp up in power then you need to upgrade your electrical first. Unless your competing, more power could be a piintless purchase.

Thanks!  My wife thinks I'm an absolute tard for spending $825 on just subs.  I better not tell her how much 2 batteries and alt is gonna cost.....DOH!!!No.gif

Question for you guys:  Is the bass control I have on the BC2000 interchangeable with other amps, say an AQ3500?  I would guess at least the wire is interchangeable, correct?  I would prefer not to rerun a new wire when getting a larger amp if possible.

I will be starting a new thread to sell/trade my BC2000 for something along the lines of a BC3500 or AQ3500 soon.  Just need to snap a few pics.  My BC2000 is mint, with both original boxes.

Would you recommend I get a 2nd battery before a larger amp? I currently just have a yellow top in the engine bay. Would a XS battery (or comparable) operate alright with the yellow top until I could get 2 matching batteries?

Thanks
